About the program

Students, who specialize in "Engineering geodesy", study the state-of-the-art instruments and technologies in order to collect geospatial data about the objects and other phenomena in the geospace. Such instruments include total stations, electronic levelling instruments, satellite receivers, terrestrial laser scanners, etc. They also learn a wide range of software for spatial data processing. Engineers with a degree in "Engineering geodesy" are able to perform all sorts of geodetic works , including creation of geodetic base using up-to-date satellite techniques; technical diagnostics of unique engineering structures; geodetic support while constructing and maintenance of engineering facilities. Future specialists can use computer technologies for geospatial data processing by means of such software as Panorama, CREDO, AutoCAD, Photomod, MapInfo and others. They also provide geodetic expertise of land-pecuniary relations and property units; inventory and certification of property units, applying 3D technologies for objects representation via real time link.
Engineer-geodesist is one of the professions with excellent job opportunities in the relevant spheres.

Learning outcomes

  • Make use of state-of-the-art special purpose geodetic instruments and software solutions for performing geodetic and mine surveying works
  • Perform works on topographic-geodesic representation of the Earth as a whole as well as its different territories
  • Make use of state-of-the-art special purpose geodetic instruments and software solutions for performing geodetic and mine surveying works
  • Produce and renovate topographic and thematic maps according to the interpretation of aerial photographs results and ground-derived data via photogrammetric methods
  • Plan and perform topographic-geodesic and cartographic works while conducting engineering-geodetic surveying of construction objects and while natural resources management
  • Conduct engineering-geodetic works while projecting, construction and maintenance of engineering objects as well as obtain geodetic data about such structures in order to comply with the designed configuration
  • Supervise the deformations and displacements of technical constructions, investigate the dynamics of the Earth surface changes via geodetic methods

Career opportunities

Graduates with the degree in Engineering geodesy can work at geodetic enterprises, cadastre land registration offices, construction companies, etc. They can be engineer-geodesists, chief land-surveyors, chief topographers, senior engineers, leading land-surveyors at major enterprises in topographic-geodetic spheres in Irkutsk and other regions of the Russian Federation as well abroad. Our partners are such enterprises as joint-stock companies "Eastern-Siberian Aerial-Geodetic Enterprise", "Kadastrs'emka", public companies "Trud", "IrkutskgiprodorNII" and many others.
