About the program

The economic growth of any country is impossible without the advanced development of the electric power industry. In recent decades, renewable energy sources have been developing dynamically, digital technologies are being introduced in the energy sector, and distributed generation is developing. At the same time, the basic processes are unchanged: it is the generation of electricity at power plants, its transmission through power lines and transformation at substations for supplying power consumers.
This program is aimed at studying both classical and modern problems of design, operation and analysis of the electrical part of power plants and power systems. The training of specialists in the "Power Stations" program has been carried out at INRTU since 1962, during which time the Department of Electrical Stations, Networks and Systems has accumulated a great deal of experience in training qualified specialists for the electric power industry.

Learning outcomes

  • Ability to calculate and analyze the operating modes of electrical systems of all voltage classes, to develop projects for high voltage electrical networks;
  • Ability to work with modern systems of digital protection, measurement, automation and control of electrical equipment of power systems;
  • Knowledge and basic skills of operation, testing and diagnostics of main and auxiliary electrical equipment of power plants and systems;
  • Design and engineering skills of the electrical and technological parts of power plants.

Career opportunities

For more than 50 years of this program existence, graduates are guaranteed to get a job in a variety of industries related to electrical engineering: power plants, power grid and energy sales companies, dispatch centers, industrial and mining energy-intensive industries, scientific and educational organizations. The graduates of the program begin their career with the positions of engineers, while there are no career limits. Graduates work in Russia, Germany, UK, USA and other countries. These are top managers of large energy and industrial enterprises, scientific and technical leaders and specialists in the field of electrical engineering, doctors and candidates of sciences, professors and associate professors.
After completing the bachelor's degree, the graduate can continue his studies at any of the master's programs in the field of electrical engineering, and then in graduate school with a further prospect of research and teaching.
