About the program

Humanity's need for minerals is eternal. Gold or rhenium, on the Earth or on Mars: new discoveries will be necessary as long as human civilization exists. That means geologists are needed.
Students have such disciplines as general geology, mineralogy and petrography; ore deposit geology; geochemical and geophysical methods of ore deposit prospecting; modern chemical analytical methods; computer modeling of the geological environment, calculation of reserves.

Learning outcomes

  • A complete set of knowledge and skills required to work in companies engaged in prospecting, exploration and development of deposits of solid minerals: from drafting, through field and cameral works, to writing and defending reports;
  • Professional mastery of modern computer modeling methods in geology, including GIS-technologies and 3D-modeling of deposits, as well as the application of these methods to design and conduct geological exploration for solid minerals;
  • Ability to solve non-standard geological tasks in today's economy.

Career opportunities

All students have internships at the unique training facility «Chernorud» on the shore of Maloe More of Lake Baikal, which is world-famous.
Graduates are easily employed at partner enterprises after graduation from the University. During their studies they are given the opportunity to start a geological career working at INRTU itself starting from the first year.
