The Fire in Mayakovsky Poems Inspires Foreign Students

Ahmad Garba Yakubu, a student of the INRTU Preparatory Department, is excited at the chance to share what he has learned in ouevre of Vladimir Mayakovsky.

On 12 May , 2023, the Interuniversity Phonetic Competition in Russian as a Foreign Language, dedicated to the 130th anniversary of Vladimir Mayakovsky, was held at the Institute of Philology, Foreign Languages and Media Communication of ISU, "These words set in motion thousands of years of millions of hearts." Foreign students of INRTU, BSU, IGMU and ISU fr om China, Poland, India, Nigeria, Afghanistan and CIS countries took part in the competition

It was a sunny day, when we drove to the Irkutsk State University together with our teachers Ms Larisa Proskurnina, Ms Ekaterina Karpets and some students accompanied us too. I was wellprepared by Ms Nataliia Petrova. She helped me in memorising, revising and practing, because it was my first time and I need a lot of coaching.

At first, we were welcomed by some pleasant staffs of the university, and few minutes walked in the university to the main hall, wh ere a lot of programs took place. All the participants read poems by heart and showed productions of play by Vladimir Mayakovsky, reading a random complex Russian text and so on... It was my first experience to participate physically in Inter-university competitions in Russia.

I was very happy to be part of it and hold a certificate for participation. Not only me but other two students from my university got certificates and diplomas. Renata Lolo from Poland made a beautiful performance with a poem “Listen!”, using church candles, mesmerizing music and elements of chanting. Nekruz Hamidov from Tajikistan read poem “Violin” playing on the violin! They took first and second place accordingly at the competition!

It was a memorable moment, and my special thanks to Ms Nataliia who coached me on memorizing, practicing and getting ready for the competition together with all the teachers who collaborated with us on the Poetry project. I am grateful for your responsive attitude towards your work!
