Chinese New Year in BS of BRICS

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Room 300 in the BRICS Teaching Building of Irkutsk National Research Technical University was filled with warmth and festivity. Organized by Teacher Oleg, Chinese and Russian students gathered to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year.

The event began with Chinese students acting as "food mentors" to guide their Russian peers in the art of making dumplings. Tan Enxi carefully prepared flour, dough, and filling, and together with Cao Mengtong, Li Mingyu, Zhou Yitong, and Yu Youheng, taught everyone how to roll the dough, fill the dumplings, and pinch the edges. From initial fumbling to eventual proficiency, the Russian students not only learned a new skill but also felt the meaning of reunion behind this traditional Chinese food. Yu Youheng also brought hometown candies and homemade dried apples to share, adding sweetness to the festive atmosphere. The classroom was filled with the classic songs of Andy Lau, creating a strong sense of celebration.

Later, Tan Enxi introduced the traditional Chinese board game, mahjong, to the Russian friends. He patiently explained the rules and demonstrated the gameplay, and soon everyone was gathered around the table, experiencing the wisdom and fun of the game. From unfamiliarity to curiosity and then engagement, the Russian students further appreciated the unique charm of Chinese culture at the mahjong table.

This event was not only a cultural exchange but also a spiritual connection. Amid laughter and joy, Chinese and Russian students broke down language barriers, deepened their friendship, and let the Chinese Spring Festival culture shine brightly in a foreign land.
