National Student Boxing League Championship in Memory of Zakarya Migerov is Held in Irkutsk with the Support of INRTU

The National Student Boxing League championship among juniors and young men started in the Vityaz martial arts hall in Irkutsk on October 25. The tournament, dedicated to the memory of seven-time Soviet Union Champion Zakarya Khasanovich Migerov, is organized under INRTU support.

The competition is held under the cooperation agreement between INRTU and Grozny State Oil Technical University.

Irkutsk is hosting the championship for the sixth time. This year the championship attracted a record number of athletes - almost 100 boxers from the Amur, Tomsk, Murmansk, Belgorod, Kemerovo regions, the Republics of Tyva, Buryatia and other regions. Irkutsk region is represented by 28 people at the competition.

The championship was preceded by the opening ceremony, hosted by Sergey Travnikov, a student of the INRTU School of Subsurface Resource Management. The Ethnobit ethnic drumming studio and INRTU cheerleading team performed at the ceremony.

A letter of greetings on behalf of Magomed Mintsayev, Rector of Grozny Technical Petroleum University and President of the National Student Boxing League, was read out. He pointed out that student boxing is actively developing in various regions of the country and wished the athletes to get high results.

Sergey Anosov, Vice-Rector for Campus and Corporate Governance of INRTU, emphasized the importance of the event for the university:

"With the tournament we honor the name of Zakarya Khasanovich Migerov, a famous boxer who worked as a coach at INRTU. He stood at the origins of developing boxing in our university and brought up a whole bunch of talented athletes".

Sergey Anosov told the participants about the opportunities created for athletes at INRTU:

"The university has national teams in various sports, including boxing. Having entered INRTU, each of you can continue your sports career and achieve success".

At the official part of the event, the judges were introduced. Mikhail Leonov became the technical delegate from the Russian Boxing Federation. The chief judge of the competition was Alexander Dudinsky. Sergey Porokhin, Head of the Olympic Reserve School "Olympian", presented Sergey Serbin, a judge of the All-Russian category, with the badge "Excellent Physical Culture and Sport".

According to Pavel Kirik, INRTU boxing team's coach, the championship is a qualifying round for the Russian Cup: 

"The tournament is scheduled to be held in St. Petersburg in November. Irkutsk competitions can be considered as prestigious. We see how the number of participants grows every year and their qualification level increases. Arseniy Grishchenko and Alexander Baklagin represent INRTU boxing hall".

Spectacular battles of the championship will last until October 30, more details about the schedule can be found at the link. On the same day in the hall of martial arts "Vityaz" the closing ceremony and awarding of prize-winners will be organized.
