Lecture “They Fought for the Motherland: Names of the Great Victory” Held at INRTU for International Students

As part of the “Discover Russia with Knowledge” project, the Russian Society “Knowledge” organized a lecture titled “They Fought for the Motherland: Names of the Great Victory” for students from Mongolia. By taking part, students of the Baikal School of BRICS had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Russia's vast cultural, historical, and scientific heritage while also building stronger international friendships.

The “Discover Russia with Knowledge” project is a chance for any international student to make their stay in the country truly enriching and meaningful. Petr Noskov, a member of the Youth Electoral Commission of Irkutsk Region and a volunteer in Donbas, delivered the educational lecture. The event was a multimedia presentation combined with an open dialogue.

The speaker introduced students to the key figures of the Great Victory, including Georgy Zhukov, Alexander Matrosov, Fyodor Okhlopkov, Fayzulla Agletdinov, and others.

“All of these people performed heroic deeds, and many gave the most precious thing they had—their lives. It wasn't only men who fought; women did as well. These seemingly fragile girls, showing incredible courage, stood alongside the soldiers to stop the enemy. In those difficult years, even children rose to defend the Motherland, working on the home front and providing support to the front lines. These examples evoke deep respect, send shivers down one's spine, and fill one with pride for our people and their resilience,”

said Petr Noskov.

The lecture left a deep impression on third-year student of the Baikal School of BRICS, Ainur Sandalkhan:

“We were told about the heroes who left a significant mark on history. Before, I only knew that May 9 is a very important and special holiday for the Russian people, but now I understand that the meaning of this day is much deeper.
Victory Day is a day of remembrance, respect, and gratitude. On this holiday, people honor the heroes who defended their Motherland during World War II. That war brought immense pain and heavy losses. Millions of people sacrificed their lives for the peaceful future of the next generations.
For many, this holiday is especially important because the war touched almost every family. I was deeply moved by the stories of the heroes and the people who contributed to the Victory”.
