INRTU Students Were Invited to Undergo an HIV Test in Observance of International AIDS Day
The event held on December 1 at INRTU was open to any student or employee. The Youth Policy Department and the Irkutsk Regional AIDS Centre coordinated the event.
A mobile laboratory was stationed on the campus premises for this purpose. The testing process was prompt and easily administered, with results available in just 15 minutes. Everyone who attended the mobile laboratory was allocated a numbered heart-shaped tag to replace their name and surname, ensuring anonymity during the testing process - so there is no need to worry about someone seeing your results.
According to Evgeny Podlinov, an INRTU specialist in preventive work, employees of the Irkutsk Regional AIDS Centre hold an annual campaign at the University.
“This provides students with a special chance to get tested for HIV at no cost and without leaving the premises. At least four such opportunities are available each year. Furthermore, our department holds regular lectures and meetings with the AIDS Centre representatives. Students discover that they can contract HIV not only through sexual intercourse but also by getting a tattoo or visiting a nail salon. It's a rare occurrence, but it's vital to make sure that sterile items are used during procedures," Evgeny Podlinov clarified.
A total of 40 people took part in the action. The next rapid testing will take place in spring as part of the Health Fair project.
