The Governor's Symphony Orchestra Performed John Williams Anthology Concert at INRTU

The John Williams Anthology concert performed by the Governor's Symphony Orchestra on INRTU's stage was a full house. The orchestra was conducted by Maxim Kachalov.

Sergei Travnikov, the host of the concert, noted that it was a great honour for the university to host the Governor's Symphony Orchestra, the pride of the Irkutsk Regional Philharmonic Society, on its stage:

"The Symphony Orchestra was established in 1958, and in 2000, on the initiative of the Irkutsk region's first Governor Yuri Nozhikov, it was granted the Governor's Orchestra status. Since 2009 Ilmar Lapins, Honoured Art Worker of Russia, has been the orchestra's artistic director. The program planned to be presented by the musicians for INRTU students, teachers and guests is extraordinary.

The orchestra will perform music from films written by John Williams, an American composer and conductor, five-time Oscar winner, one of the most successful film composers. We are sure you will get the most out of the music."

Compositions from the Harry Potter, Home Alone, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Star Wars, Jaws, Schindler's List, Catch Me If You Can, Artificial Intelligence and other films were included in the John Williams Anthology concert. The soundtracks were enhanced by dynamic scenes from those film masterpieces, which could be seen on the big screen.

As the audience noted, these magical melodies have been enchanting both children and adults throughout the world for more than 20 years.

First-year student Alina Nesterova came to the concert with her younger sister using a Pushkin card:

"We absolutely love  Harry Potter books and films. It is hard to imagine Harry and his friends without the amazing music of John Williams. After watching numerous films, music to which this composer wrote, you involuntarily fall in love with the melody, and it does not let you go for a long time. This is the case when the picture and music absolutely coincide.

And the older generation in our family loves Spielberg's films about the adventures of Indiana Jones, also accompanied by Williams' music.

By the way, the composer is not limited to soundtracks. He created music for several Olympic Games.

We are grateful to the organisers of the concert for such a gift on the first day of winter".

Maxim Kachalov took up the conductor's chair at the age of 19. He is a graduate of the F. Chopin Irkutsk Music College and the Dmitry Hvorostovsky Siberian State Institute of Arts as a violinist. In 2018, he graduated with a master's degree from Kazan State Conservatory. Maksim Kachalov's mentor is Ilmar Lapins, chief conductor and artistic director of the Governor's Symphony Orchestra.

INRTU actively cooperates with the Irkutsk Regional Philharmony. INRTU student creative teams have been successfully performing together with professional musicians for several years in the Youth Philharmonic project, which is popular among Irkutsk citizens.
