INRTU Students Participated in the Young Blood Internal Sports Mafia Game Tournament
On 10 December, the Young Blood tournament was held at the university's Tochka Kipeniya (Boiling Point) co-working center with the participation of the INRTU and Mechanical Engineering students. The event was organized by the Black Seal Sports Mafia student club under the Youth Policy Department.
Since the beginning of the academic year, a total of 16 first-year students have been taking part in intellectual games and lectures about the Mafia. Mafia is an intellectual sports game designed to develop memory, logical thinking, rhetoric and argumentation skills.
Sports Mafia is played with 10 people at a table. The game starts with the distribution of role cards, the active roles are the Sheriff (red player) and 3 Mafia (black). The game has 2 phases - day and night, during the day the civilians - 7 red players have to guess who the mafia are, at night the mafia wake up and get rid of the red players. Each player has only one minute to clearly explain to the town who they suspect and why the civilians might think they are a red player. During this time, the other players can use gestures to communicate with each other. During the Day Phase, players can nominate any resident for a vote, and once all 10 players have spoken, the host will announce the nominations. The residents must then vote for who they think is the Mafia. Either the team of red players who discovered the Mafia or the team of black players who stayed in the game with the fewest civilians wins.
The game is a team game, but the winners were determined by taking into account individual scores. The players with the most extra points were placed in the top 3.
Presenter (referee) Dmitry Nikolaev explained how the players were judged:
"Every win was reflected in points and strong strategic moves were rewarded with extra points. The table was tight throughout the tournament, with each game deciding the top three places. There was a lot of emotion, the joy of victory and the bitterness of defeat. 10 games in one day is a difficult distance for players of any level. Everyone tried very hard and played to win, both for themselves and for their red or black team."
According to the results of the game the winners were determined: 1st place - Evgeny Snegirev, 2nd place - Alina Glebskaya, 3rd place - Nikita Erdman. All participants were awarded with certificates of participation. The winners received souvenirs.
Next year the organizers plan to hold a big game at Technopark for employees, teachers and students.
The Black Seal Club was founded in INRTU in 2022. Lectures and practical classes are organized for the participants to develop communication and logical skills. The club's best players compete in inter-university and regional tournaments.
