INRTU Preparatory Program Student Zhao Peiyi Wins Prize at National Flying Carpet Travel Tournament
Zhao Peiyi, a student from China enrolled in the Preparatory Russian Language Course at INRTU’s Baikal School of BRICS, won third place in the Firebird category of the national Flying Carpet Travel Tournament.
The competition was organized by the Russian as a Foreign Language Research and Education Center. Its goal is to introduce international audiences to Russia, its cities, culture, and natural attractions. The tournament also gives foreign students a chance to share their creative ideas and learn more about Russian culture.
Participants from India, Iraq, China, Mali, Morocco, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sudan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan submitted video projects in three categories. The Seven-League Boots category featured short city tours, Magic Casket focused on unusual landmarks, and Firebird highlighted the natural beauty of Russian regions.
On May 28, international students enrolled in the INRTU Preparatory Russian Language Course took part in an excursion to Lake Baikal. The experience later inspired Zhao Peiyi’s competition video. Through her project, she wanted to share the positive emotions she felt during the trip and show the value of friendship.
Natalia Tolstikova, a teacher at the Department of Russian Language Didactics, supervised Zhao’s work on the project.
“The final video was interesting and well made. Peiyi completed all the technical work and research on her own. I helped by providing additional materials and assisting with the selection of music and sound effects,”
Natalia Tolstikova said.
Zhao explained that her goal was to share the sense of peace and happiness that comes from spending time with close friends and experiencing the beauty of Lake Baikal.
Alla Antonova, Head of the Department of Russian Language Didactics at BS BRICS, noted that the competition gives participants an opportunity to present different regions of Russia through their own experiences and creative work:
“Participation in competitions like this is important for us because they help introduce Russian culture to people around the world and create a positive image of Russia abroad.
Zhao Peiyi successfully showed the beauty of Lake Baikal. The competition brought together participants from many countries, and we were proud to represent both Irkutsk and our university”.
