INRTU Student Ilya Kaimonov Wins Second Place at Regional Stage of the Chinese Bridge Competition
The regional qualifying stage of the 25th All-Russian Chinese Bridge Competition took place in Ulan-Ude at the Confucius Institute of Dorji Banzarov Buryat State University (BSU). Eleven students from universities within the Irkutsk consular district competed for the opportunity to represent the district at the national level. INRTU was represented in the district-level round by three students from its Baikal School of BRICS: Dmitry Aksenov, Aleksandra Ivanova, and Ilya Kaimonov.
The guest of honor at the event, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Irkutsk Ms. Liu Yu, emphasized the importance of learning Chinese in her welcoming remarks:
“Language is the best key to understanding a country. The Chinese language is the crystallization of a rich and profound Chinese history and culture. Knowing it provides an opportunity to connect with China's development. Today, China and Russia are good neighbors, good friends, and reliable partners”.
This year's topic for the regional contest was “One World, One Family”. The qualifying round consisted of four stages: a prepared monologue, an impromptu speech, a linguistic and cultural quiz, and a creative performance with Chinese characteristics. All participants demonstrated not only excellent language proficiency and public speaking skills but also an original and creative approach to completing the tasks.
Ilya Kaimonov, a student at the Baikal School of BRICS, successfully completed all the assignments and took second place. His creative number – performing a song in Chinese – made a particular impression on the jury.
It should be noted that a high level of Chinese language proficiency opens up broad opportunities for students in international cooperation, participation in joint educational programs, and career building in companies that work with China and the Asia-Pacific region.
