Students of INRTU spoke about their summer program at the Beijing Institute of Technology

Eight INRTU students completed the summer program at the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT International Summer Programs). The trip of the INRTU students to China from July 8 to 29 became possible thanks to the International Office of the university.

BIT is one of the best universities in China. The university pays special attention to engineering sciences and technology, and also develops other fields, including management and humanities.

Among INRTU students, such programs as "Learning Chinese with the Use of AI and Intercultural Communication," "Practical Mastery of New Technologies in Electronic Engineering," and "Advanced Topics in Materials Science for Renewable Energy" are popular for summer internships. Together with the students, young scholars from various countries took part in the short-term overseas course.

Nina Berngard, Head of the International Office, said that in 2023 INRTU signed a memorandum of understanding with the Beijing Institute of Technology:

"During this period, a productive and mutually beneficial partnership has developed. To date, more than 80 of our students have already visited this university for inclusive learning and language internships — both in short-term and long-term formats. We appreciate the opportunity that BIT provides to our students. Both undergraduate and graduate students can go for inclusive learning. Students have the opportunity to study in English-language programs in mechanical engineering, energy, robotics, economics and law, information technology, chemistry, and astronautics. I am confident that our cooperation will only continue to develop, opening new horizons for academic mobility."

A second-year student and future power engineer, Polina Sharipova, completed her first summer program at BIT. According to her, the three-week program in China opened up many new opportunities:

“Ancient and modern Beijing amazes with its contrasts and infrastructure. I managed to quickly get used to the transport and digital communication of all possible services. You need to be close friends with your smartphone — without this device, you can't get anywhere in China. An international internship is an amazing experience! Here you need to step out of your comfort zone, quickly adapt to new realities, and constantly meet new people. You have to live at full speed! The Beijing Institute of Technology is a huge campus that has room for both classical Chinese gardens and a state-of-the-art library, as well as spacious academic buildings. We also had a great opportunity to immerse ourselves in Chinese culture.
Students from more than 20 countries around the world and several Russian cities took part in the internship. Now each of us can say in Chinese which country we came from. The Beijing Institute of Technology is a huge campus that has room for both classical Chinese gardens and a state-of-the-art library, as well as spacious academic buildings. We also had a great opportunity to immerse ourselves in Chinese culture. Students from more than 20 countries around the world and several Russian cities took part in the internship. Now each of us can say in Chinese which country we came from.”

The student believes that energy today is the heart of civilization — without it, there are neither technologies nor comfort:

"The subject of research in Beijing was electronics, microprocessor operations, and getting acquainted with modern technologies in bioelectronics. I am inspired by the opportunity to take part in the global transition to green energy, to solve the most complex engineering challenges, and to improve life in my country and region." 

Polina thanked INRTU for the opportunity to master her chosen profession not only at the INRTU, but also at top universities around the world:

"I can't wait to repeat this experience in a new city in China or even a new country! I really want to conduct scientific research at one of the universities in Korea and Indonesia, taking part in an international school, forum, or conference."

A third-year student of the Baikal School of BRICS Studies and a future linguist, Alina Bykova, shared her impressions of the summer internship, which was her first trip abroad:

"I study Chinese and am familiar with the country's culture from lectures, as well as from books, the internet, and video clips. At the Beijing Institute of Technology, we met Spaniards, Italians, and Argentinians. My adaptation period lasted a week, and then I realized that I felt comfortable and that this was my place — I liked it here."

According to Alina, thanks to the internship she managed to improve her Chinese as much as possible:

"At first, I didn't understand native speakers at all, but over time I was already taking taxis and chatting freely with locals. There was no time to be bored in class. Electronic engineering is a very fascinating field of science and technology."

An INRTU student noted that the cultural part of the internship program was excellent:

"Beijing struck me with its beauty and scale. The city combines modernity and history, which could not fail to impress. A trip to the Great Wall of China left unforgettable impressions.
I plan to go on internships at universities in Shanghai or Nanjing. So as not to miss an interesting opportunity, I just have to follow the social media of the International Office."
