INRTU Took Part in the III Forum of University Rectors of Russia and Vietnam

A delegation fr om Irkutsk National Research Technical University (INRTU) took part in the III Forum of University Rectors of Russia and Vietnam. The delegation included Rector Mikhail Korniakov and Vice-Rector for International Affairs Stepan Bykov. During the event, INRTU signed a cooperation agreement with Ha Long University and presented its academic opportunities to prospective Vietnamese applicants.

The forum, organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and Lomonosov Moscow State University, opened on May 22 at the University of Transport and Communications in Hanoi. It became a key event of the Russia-Vietnam Year of Cooperation in Science and Education, announced by decision of President Vladimir Putin and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Tô Lâm in May 2025. Representatives of over 100 Vietnamese and Russian universities attended the forum.

One of the key outcomes of INRTU’s participation in the forum was the signing of a cooperation agreement with Ha Long University. The agreement opens up new opportunities for academic and research mobility. The two universities agreed to develop joint educational projects in information technology, mechatronics, and economics. The agreement also provides for active student and faculty exchanges, as well as the launch of collaborative academic programs.

INRTU has long-standing ties with the Vietnamese academic community. More than 20 Vietnamese students and postgraduate researchers are currently studying at the university. Graduates successfully defend their PhD theses in mechanical engineering and other technical fields, obtain patents for their inventions, and publish research in leading academic journals. In this context, the new agreement with Ha Long University is expected to strengthen joint research initiatives and academic mobility, becoming a natural continuation of many years of cooperation.

In addition, an exhibition opened for Vietnamese schoolchildren and students on the second day of the forum, May 25, wh ere more than 40 Russian universities presented their educational programs. INRTU Vice-Rector for International Affairs Stepan Bykov presented academic programs of INRTU to Vietnamese high school and university students interested in pursuing engineering education in Russia, and answered questions from prospective applicants.
