INRTU International Students Master Infographic Skills at Lecture‑Workshop
A hands-on lecture-workshop, “Infographics: From Idea to Career”, was held for international students of the INRTU Preparatory Department at INRTU on April 18. The event was organized by the INRTU Center for International Services and took place as part of the School of International Friendship project, which is implemented with the support of Rosmolodezh.Grants.
The speaker was Mark Volkov, a designer and media specialist, an activist of the International Friendship Club of the Irkutsk Region and a representative of the Movement of the First. During the session, he outlined a systematic approach to creating infographics – from shaping an idea and building a structure to producing the final visual product.
The lecture segment introduced participants to the core principles of information visualization, including data handling, establishing a visual hierarchy, and choosing graphic solutions. The hands-on segment allowed them to reinforce what they had learned and receive personal feedback from the speaker.
Particular attention was paid to the practical value of infographics as a universal communication tool. Attendees were shown how the skill can be used in educational, media, and professional settings, as well as the opportunities it opens up in the creative industries.
The event was held in a small-group format, which ensured a high level of engagement and allowed for personalized work with each participant.
“This workshop was an extremely useful and inspiring experience for me. I learned how to present complex information in a simple and clear way using infographics. It was especially valuable that everything was explained in practice, with real examples. Events like this not only give you new knowledge, but also help you better understand how to apply it in your studies and in your future career,”
said Sikder MD Shawon, a student from Bangladesh.
The organizers point out that such events help students develop visual thinking and build in-demand digital skills, boosting the competitiveness of young professionals.
The workshop proved to be an effective platform for exchanging experience and getting hands-on practice with visualization tools, opening up new opportunities for professional growth.
