About the program

The program is aimed at training specialists, who can work in global markets both as researchers and engineers, have deep knowledge and skills in studying the state of environment in complex and unique natural and anthropogenic geosystems and are able to ensure their sustainable economic development.

Students will study how geosystems form and develop under the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors, acquire basic methods and technologies used to study and monitor condition of geosystems as well as obtain experience in solving relevant scientific and practical problems of assessing the impact of economic activity on the environment.

Learning outcomes

  • Practical orientation. Students will gain significant experience doing geoecological research of the Baikal Region.
  • Interdisciplinarity. Students will learn about a wide range of disciplines and technologies that together make it possible to address the challenges of geoecological research and engineering, including geochemical, geodetic, geophysical, engineering and geological GIS technologies. As a result, graduates will be able to solve various problems and organize complex projects.
  • Relevance. Graduates will be capable of conducting scientific research, creating projects, and handling complex environmental challenges in environmental management, ensuring a balance between economic development and environmental conservation in both Russian and foreign markets.

Career opportunities

The Russian and foreign labor markets offer a variety of positions in the mining industry, government geological services, environmental organizations, research institutes and universities for graduates of the program with a focus on the use of modern digital and analytical methods.

With experience in geoecological research using the best modern practices and the ability to use the SSG complex of world-class technologies, graduates will be competitive and in demand in the upcoming years.
