In Siberia Egyptian speaking Russian

At the beginning I want to introduce myself to you: my name is Amr Mahmoud fr om Egypt. I am currently studying at Baikal School of BRICS majoring in International Business. In this article I will talk to you about my participation in an international competition of the Russian language for foreign students, starting from the first stage until reaching the final. But at the first I want to tell you about my experience , and why exactly I chose the Russian language to learn.

The story begins when I was a high school student. I had a big dream to travel and study abroad because of my great love and my excellence in learning foreign languages. When I was a school student I studied many foreign languages for many years, such as French. This language I studied at a private school in Egypt for up to six years, in addition to English, which I studied very well for about 12 years. My grades in foreign languages were always the highest until my teachers noticed my speed to memorize, absorb and speak the language fluently.

And here begins my journey with learning the Russian language. So during the final year at the Secondary school I already decided that, I would study abroad. I chose the Russian language or Russia specifically because of my strong desire to know that language. It seems very difficult to me or in other words like a challenge for me. We all know that the letters of the Russian language are not like the Latin letters that exist, for example not like English or French. I started to self-teach myself the Russian language and downloaded an educational book called “The way to Russia Part One“. I used translation applications and some YouTube videos to explain the Russian language. In addition I communicated with a lot of Russians who want to learn Arabic through an application called “Hello talk“ and indeed that application helped me a lot, especially in speaking skills. And pronunciation correction in the Russian language.

During my last year of high school, I studied Russian very intensively. I even managed to actually speak Russian after three months when I graduated from school. At this time I could speak Russian somewhat well but of course not like now. I could introduce myself and express what I wanted and I could read and write well. Then after that I prepared my papers and travel to Kazan in the Republic of Tatarstan in Russia. I was study in a preparatory course for the Russian language to intensify the language about 6 months. After that I returned to Egypt and decided to study at the Irkutsk National Research Technical University at the Baikal school of BRICS.

I got B1 level in the Russian language after studying in the preparatory department BS BRICS. This was a new achievement. Then I joined the Faculty of International Business at the BS BRICS. Here I found out about an international Russian language competition for foreign students in the city of Nizhny Tagil.

I was very impressed with the idea and I was very excited and I actually participated. The competition consisted of three stages: the first and second stage only online by writing articles on certain topics , and the third stage in the final. I actually passed the first and second stage successfully until I saw my name on the list of finalists , I was very happy. I went to the final with a maintainer from the BS BRICS Elena Perelygina. She helped me a lot and trained me for the final stage, wh ere the final stage was expressed that I was going to read a poetic poem in Russian. Elena's role was to correct me the mistakes that may be possible in pronunciation.

And indeed I succeeded in doing that, and then after that I made an Musical show, I played in my musical instrument with a Russian song, which greatly impressed the audience and brought happiness to my heart. It was unforgettable moments in the city of Nizhny Tagil. After that we returned to Irkutsk, and the rector of our University Kornyakov Mikhail Viktorovich honored me and also my maintainer Elena Perelygina. All thanks and appreciation to her for supporting me in the competition.

Also I want to thank the Ministry of education in Russia for having events and competitions like that that support foreigners. I want to thank our university and the rector of our university for the support students, especially foreign students, thank you!
