RosGeo with Support from INRTU and Rosnedra Will Train Geologists for the DPRK
The holding company “RosGeo” with the support of the Irkutsk National Research Technical University (INRTU), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, and the Federal Agency for Mineral Resources (Rosnedra) has begun joint training of geologists in the interests of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
The training will be conducted in accordance with the decisions of the Intergovernmental Commission of the Russian Federation and the DPRK for Trade, Economic, and Scientific-Technical Cooperation in the format of professional development, with a primary focus on the geology of solid minerals. The educational project was launched on August 19 at a meeting at INRTU with the participation of the leadership of Rosnedra, RosGeo, the DPRK Embassy in Russia, the University, and the Government of the Irkutsk Region.
The participants of the event were welcomed by the Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Mineral Resources, Aslambek Germakhanov. He emphasized the importance of exploration for hydrocarbon resources and solid minerals in the DPRK.
“The training of geologists is a painstaking process requiring the acquisition of deep theoretical and practical knowledge. A good geologist is the key to discovering deposits and the rational use of subsoil resources. The level of specialist training at INRTU is high. I wish our Korean comrades success in their studies and further professional activities,” noted Aslambek Germakhanov.In his welcoming address, the Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of the DPRK in Russia, Ri Yong Jin, noted that the educational project is the first result of cooperation between the two countries in the field of geology and subsoil use, which is developing thanks to the attention of the leaders of Russia and the DPRK, and expressed hope that the project will serve as an important foundation for the further expansion of interaction in the field of geological exploration.
“In the process of developing the educational program for Korean specialists, we sought to create a platform for dialogue and interaction where each participant can unlock their potential, broaden their horizons of knowledge, and master new methods and technologies,” emphasized Alexey Desyatkin, General Director of JSC Zarubezhgeologia (International Business Unit of RosGeo).Welcoming the event participants, the First Deputy Governor of the Irkutsk Region, Roman Kolesov, emphasized that the new educational program is the result of joint work:
“Geological exploration is critically important for providing the mining industry with data on mineral reserves. The participation of the DPRK delegation in the professional development program in solid minerals exploration at INRTU will contribute to the development of cooperation between the Irkutsk Region and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea,” explained Roman Kolesov.According to the Rector of INRTU, Mikhail Korniakov, INRTU is actively involved in developing cooperation and strengthening friendly, professional ties between the two countries; students from the DPRK study at the university under the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation, including in the fields of geology, information technology, energy, mechanical engineering, and chemical technology.
“We are proud of their successes and will be glad to see more talented students from the DPRK at our university. I am confident that during the short training period you will gain new, modern knowledge in the field of geology and apply it to strengthen the economy of your country,” noted Mikhail Korniakov.The educational intensive course is designed for two weeks and includes theoretical and practical modules. During the training, Korean geologists will visit the facilities of JSC Urangeo (a subsidiary of RosGeo) located in the Irkutsk Region.
