Interuniversity campus will be constructed in Irkutsk with the participation of DOM.RF

An interuniversity campus and a residential district will be built in Irkutsk with the participation of DOM.RF. The agreement on cooperation in the implementation of the project of the complex development of the vacant area was signed in the framework of the business program of the XXVI St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The document was signed by Igor Kobzev, Governor of the Irkutsk region, and Denis Filippov, Deputy General Director of DOM.RF. It was reported in the press release of the regional government.

A land plot of 12.4 hectares near the university campus has already been chosen. The area is owned by the Russian Federation and has been transferred to DOM.RF for the integrated development of the territory. The right to implement the project will be put up for an auction by DOM.RF. The winner will be able to build up to 94 thousand square meters of housing there. It is also planned to create infrastructure, social facilities, and landscaping.

According to Igor Kobzev,

"The Irkutsk region has cooperated for a long time with DOM.RF in terms of housing development. This agreement will contribute to the development of the territory of Irkutsk city and to the improvement of the life quality of the citizens. The number of students in Irkutsk region is expected to grow, due to large and medium-sized investment projects, which will result in 40 thousand workplaces in the future. In order to solve the personnel issues and to provide students with necessary dormitories, we are working on the project of interuniversity campus."

The regional government together with the Ministry of Education and Science is adjusting the project of the interuniversity campus at the moment. Its concept includes the construction of student dormitories for 2.5 thousand places. It is planned to build a sports complex, a 25-meter swimming pool and «Research and Education Center» technology park.

Denis Filippov said,

"Redevelopment of federal lands is one of the important stages in the process of improving life quality in the regions through comprehensive urban development. The comprehensive development offered by DOM.RF helps to solve this problem as efficiently as possible. Our specialists undertake urban planning preparation of sites and the initial coordination with local authorities, thereby reducing the costs of developers and accelerating the launch of projects. The project in Irkutsk is an excellent example of fruitful cooperation with the regions in the housing sector, educational track, support for healthy lifestyle and sports."

Several years ago INRTU became one of the initiators of the construction of the Irkutsk interuniversity campus. This issue was discussed at the meeting of the university community, representatives of regional ministries and members of the delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in May.

INRTU Rector Mikhail Korniakov emphasizes the urgent need to create an interuniversity campus:

"The number of applicants is growing every year, and the housing stock where our students live is becoming outdated. We are actively working on this project together with the Government of the Irkutsk Region and Governor Igor Kobzev. I am sure that as a result of our joint efforts, an international level campus will appear in Irkutsk. "

According to Sergei Anosov, Vice-Rector for Campus and Corporate Management, there are more than 120 thousand students in the Irkutsk region. There are more than 3.5 thousand foreign citizens and 11.7 thousand students from other regions among them. Almost 12 thousand students live in the dormitories. There is a lack of places for students from other cities. This number is expected to double by 2030.
