INRTU Vice-Rector Stepan Bykov spoke at the Russian-Armenian Interparliamentary Commission meeting

Vice-Rector for International Affairs of INRTU Stepan Bykov spoke at the Russian-Armenian Interparliamentary Commission meeting on cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. The event took place in the regional government on July 21

Welcoming speeches were deliverd by the co–chairs of the Russian and Armenian parts of the Interparliamentary Commission - Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Yury Vorobyov, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hakob Arshakyan and Governor of the Irkutsk region Igor Kobzev.

The meeting was attended by senators of the Russian Federation, employees of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, representatives of the scientific and expert community of the two countries.

The participants discussed the scientific and educational cooperation between Russia and Armenia, the expansion of interuniversity cooperation in the engineering and technical personnel training. A memorandum was also signed between the Irkutsk and Kotayk regions. The document provides for the partnership development in trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian areas.

According to the Ministry of Education of the Irkutsk region, students from Armenia study at Irkutsk National Research Technical University, Baikal State University and Irkutsk State University.

During the meeting, Stepan Bykov made a report on interacting between educational organizations of Irkutsk region and those of the Republic of Armenia.

“Currently, institutional interuniversity relations are not fully developed, there is no regular academic interaction. It appears both in the exchange of students and teachers’ mobility.

We intend to establish direct contacts with educational institutions of the Republic. In June, the INRTU delegation visited Yerevan and Gyumri, new applicants from Armenia are expected to enter INRTU this year.”- the vice-rector says.

Taking into account the specialization, INRTU is interested in cooperating with Syunik regional educational organizations, including the Kapan branch of the National Polytechnic University of Armenia, Goris State University, Kapan State Engineering College.

INRTU is considering launching postgraduate courses for employees of mine-mill enterprises of Syunik region. The university is also interested in cooperating with the schools of the Republic of Armenia.

Stepan Bykov also offered colleagues from Armenia to send teachers of Russian as a foreign language to INRTU for summer language internships.

After listening to the reports, the inter-parliamentary commission recommended executive authorities of the two countries to provide assistance in creating new formats of educational cooperation. It is planned to hold Russian-Armenian forums to expand cooperation in the scientific and educational field.
