INRTU Students Won Six Gold Medals at the Irkutsk Region Boxing Championship in Memory of N.V. Tyuchkov

The INRTU team won the Irkutsk Region Championship in Boxing in Memory of N.V. Tyuchkov. The tournament, which was organized as part of the Spartakiade of Higher Education Institutions of the Irkutsk Region, took place on 19-22 December at the INRTU premises.

Students from five universities participated in the competition. INRTU students took the lead with six gold medals. The second line of the tournament table was occupied by the team of the Irkutsk State Agrarian University named after A.A. Ezhevsky. Athletes from the Irkutsk State Transport University completed the top three medalists.

At the superfinals, not only students but also boxers from higher-level sports schools participated. The tournament was organized in the format of digital boxing, which includes an interactive part, wh ere athletes compete in a computer game, and then the fight continues in the ring.

According to Alexander Demidov, head of the INRTU Sports Club and coach of the university boxing team, digital sports is a new trend that is rapidly developing in Russia:

“On the game console, athletes fought in pairs for three rounds of three minutes each. An interesting fact is that those who performed well in the interactive part were also successful in the ring. Boxing is a very challenging sport in which tactics are crucial.”

Alexander Demidov added that the holding of the superfinals in the new format was highly appreciated by Vladimir Udovenko, the Deputy Minister of Sport of the Irkutsk Region, who attended the event.

The results of the superfinals do not count for the University Spartakiade. Boxers will receive sports ranks based on the competition results. Currently, the INRTU national team is forming a team to participate in the Russian Championship, which will be held in March.
