INRTU Hosts the II International Scientific School “Chemistry of the Future”

The II International Scientific School “Chemistry of the Future” is taking place at INRTU on November 11-15. The event is aimed at creating a community of scientists interested in the development of chemical science, supporting young researchers and students. Teams of participants solve cases of En+ Group, Orgkhim Biochemical Holding, Irkutsk Oil Company and Irkutsk Polymer Plant.

More than 50 students from INRTU, Irkutsk State University (ISU), Reshetnev Siberian State University of Science and Technology, Angarsk State Technical University, Gubkin University and Shenyang Chemical Technology University showed strong interest in the scientific school. The event was supported by speakers and experts from 17 scientific, educational and industrial organizations.

As Rector of INRTU Mikhail Korniakov emphasizes, the scientific school is a unique platform to discuss current trends in the chemical sciences. The Rector expressed confidence that the event will bring together scientists, students and industrial partners to exchange knowledge and practical experience.

"Young scientists of INRTU proposed to hold a scientific school. The event has become large-scale. We see that industrial companies are also showing interest. The most valuable thing is that our partners offer students and young researchers to solve cases. I am sure that on this platform representatives of companies and scientific organizations will be able to find promising employees,” noted Mikhail Korniakov at the opening ceremony.

A great contribution to the organization of the scientific school was made by Alexander Schmidt, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Rector of ISU. He believes that the fusion of young scientists, students and experts is very productive:

“By discussing the challenges of the chemical industry in this format, we have a chance to find the best trajectory for the future. We can set strategic goals for ourselves based on what is happening in the chemical scientific and industrial community”.

Andrei Ivanov, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Director of A.E. Favorsky Irkutsk Institute of Chemistry SB RAS, wished the school participants fruitful work. He noted that in the era of great changes, new opportunities have opened up for the development of the domestic chemical industry. Due to the partial isolation of Russia, developments in low-tonnage chemistry are coming to the forefront, so scientists and manufacturers need to work together in this direction.

Bulat Gulmutdinov, Director of the Department of Oilfield Chemistry and UHS Quality Control of Irkutsk Oil Company, addressed the participants of the scientific school:

"The Russian economy now lacks 600 thousand engineers – this is a colossal number. Events like “Chemistry of the Future” are aimed at systematically eliminating the deficit of the creative cluster”.

Alexander Govorin, Program Director of the “Chemistry of the Future” scientific school, expressed his gratitude to the experts and partners, noting the success of the first event organized in 2023. Interest in the event is growing and the geography of participants is expanding.

The business program of the event opened with a panel discussion on “Advanced Chemistry and Chemistry of the Future”. The moderator was Alexander Kononov, Vice-Rector for Research at INRTU. Andrey Ivanov, Director of Director of A.E. Favorsky Irkutsk Institute of Chemistry SB RAS, Alexander Schmidt, Rector of ISU, Ivan Kuznetsov, Head of Development Service of Orgkhim Biochemical Holding, and Andrey Yakovlev, General Director of National Gas Company took part in the discussion.

The agenda included a discussion of the role of AI in the development of the chemical industry with a reference to the latest Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The experts also expressed their opinion on the problems of modern domestic chemical engineering and touched upon the environmental aspects of the modern chemical industry.

Presentations by leading Russian scientists continued the work of the scientific school. Scientists devoted their lectures to the role of AI in the development of the chemical industry, new materials for hydrogen energy, issues of complex processing of plant raw materials, etc.

Teams of students and young scientists will present their solutions on November 15.
