INRTU and Shenyang University of Chemical Technology plan to expand cooperation in scientific and educational field

INRTU and Shenyang University of Chemical Technology (SYUCT) plan to expand cooperation in the field of science and education. The parties agreed on this at a meeting that took place at INRTU on September 22.

At the meeting INRTU was represented by Rector Mikhail Korniakov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Vladimir Smirnov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Stepan Bykov, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs Alexander Kononov and Director of the School of Power Engineering Ekaterina Samarkina.

Chinese delegation included Vice-Rector Sun Yaguang, Director of the Institute of Higher Education of SYUCT Liang Guoli, Director of the Institute of Mechanical and Energy Engineering Gong Bin and an employee of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange Zhao Xiaojie.

It should be noted that Russian and Chinese universities have a long-term partnership. In 2016 the parties entered into an agreement on the development of joint educational and scientific projects and student exchange programs.

Since 2018 INRTU and SYUCT have been jointly training engineering personnel in the English-language undergraduate program “Energy and Power Engineering”. Training involves full-time training at the SYUCT. Irkutsk national research technical university provides teaching for more than half of the core disciplines. There are currently 231 students enrolled in this program.

During the meeting, Rector Mikhail Korniakov announced that Shenyang University of Chemical Technology is a strategic partner of INRTU:

“We are successfully implementing a joint educational program. Over the past five years, 10 teachers have participated in educational projects in collaboration with SYUCT.

We are also achieving high rates in the field of academic mobility - nine students studied at the polytechnic from a Chinese university, and 12 people went to Shenyang from INRTU. We consider it important not only to maintain this dynamic of cooperation, but also to expand areas of interaction.”

Vice-Rector of SYUCT Sun Yaguang prepared a presentation about the university, which was founded in 1952 in Liaoning Province. At the start, SYUCT produced personnel in the interests of the chemical industry, but over time it became a multidisciplinary university. The university trains specialists in the fields of engineering, economics, natural sciences and humanities, as well as medicine and art.

“We cooperate with universities, research centers and international organizations from 30 countries, including Russia, the USA, Great Britain, Japan, and South Korea. Currently, the agreement with INRTU has been extended; enrollment of students will be carried out till 2025. Graduates of the joint educational program are highly valued by employers and partners of our university, so we plan to continue implementing the project.

In addition, we are interested in developing research activities. Scientific areas related to the development of new materials and chemical technologies will be especially relevant for us,” says Vice-Rector Sun Yaguang.

The initiative of the representative of the Chinese university was supported by Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs Alexander Kononov:

"INRTU publishes scientific journals in various areas of science and technology. In addition, in our region it is planned to create a Federal Center for Chemistry for the development of the chemical industry. We are confident that we will be able to involve Chinese partners in the implementation of joint projects.”

According to INRTU Vice-Rector for International Affairs Stepan Bykov, a university delegation will soon visit the cities of Harbin and Shenyang:

"We plan to pay a visit to Shenyang University of Chemical Technology, during which we will be able to discuss in more detail the prospects for further cooperation.”

At the end of the event, the parties exchanged gifts. The Center for International Services, headed by Asya Kontrimovich, has prepared an exciting excursion to Lake Baikal for guests .
