Welcoming the guest, Rector Mikhail Kornyakov said that INRTU has been training highly qualified specialists for  Mongolia for more than half a century. A big part of them are engineers for mining industry.

The university maintains diverse bounds with counterparts from Mongolia. So, the INRTU organized field courses on working with drones for employees of the State Corporation "Mongolrostsvetmet"(a Mongolian-Russian Joint venture company) and the company "Erdenet". In the summer, Mongolian teachers of the Russian language studied advanced teaching methods at INRTU. Also this year, the first Mongolian cosmonaut Zhugdardemidiyn Gurragcha paid an official visit to the university. In April, the Irkutsk University co-organized "Cup of Two Lakes" ball hockey tournament on Baikal and Khubsugul.

"In the end of 2023, the delegation of INRTU is planning  to visit the Aimaks (the name of the first-level territorial administrative unit in Mongolia) through which the "Union East" gas pipeline, designed by Gazprom, will pass. Thus, our recruiters will communicate with potential applicants who can study the program  “Oil and Gas business”,- Mikhail Kornyakov said.

Khookhoryn Badamsuren thanked the rector for the conversation and the warm welcome. He also noted that in the 1970s and 1980s, the mining industry began to develop intensively in Mongolia. One of the landmark events was the construction of the Mongolian-Russian enterprise "Erdenet". Irkutsk National Research Technical University has trained staff for the industry. Collaboration with the university will be needed in the nearest future:

"We’re planning  to create an industrial cluster in the city of Erdenet. The complex will include a copper smelter, a leaching plant. We will also pay attention to the development of ferrous metallurgy. There will be export products with added value. To ensure large-scale production, the necessary railway and automobile infrastructure has already been equipped. We will need qualified  personnel to develop the industry. There is a special need for professionals in the chemical and metallurgical profile."
