Chinese and African students successfully graduated from Baikal School of BRICS

Baikal School of BRICS has graduated 130 bachelors and masters, who have completed English-taught programs. 17 students graduated with honours. The ceremony took place on 11 July in the hall of INRTU.

The video message to the graduates was recorded by Rector Mikhail Korniakov. Vice-Rector for International Affairs Stepan Bykov emphasized that the students showed perseverance, curiosity and successfully completed their studies.

“Today, the Baikal School of BRICS graduates power engineers, economists, IT specialists and managers. These were multicultural groups - students from Russia, Mongolia, Kenya, Zimbabwe and other countries studied all together. The largest group of international students came from China - this year we award diplomas to 94 bachelors and six masters. During their undergraduate years,  students got an idea about the traditions that exist among different people, expanded their social circle and found friends.”

Director of the School Anna Kireenko together with the assistant to the Rector on cooperation with China Xia Shuang congratulated graduates. According to her, INRTU diploma opens up great opportunities. They can return to China and start a career, develop the economy. Those who are wishing to continue their studies have already submitted documents to both INRTU and other universities in Russia.

Li Jini, the mother of graduate Ding Yang, addressed the BRICS BI team with words of gratitude. She stressed that the teachers helped the students in their studies, adaptation to life away from home, and supported the desire of Chinese students to gain knowledge. Li Jini wished young specialists to work hard and achieve high results. The congratulations were joined by parents who also came from China to support their children on the day of graduation.

Graduate Yang Shuwen came to Irkutsk four years ago from Hunan Province (China). At INRTU, she studied international business:


“At the university I got good knowledge and met friends. Together we travelled to Lake Baikal and around Russia. For example, we visited Murmansk city. I like Russian language, despite the difficulties with grammar. My plans are to continue my studies at the Faculty of Philology in Moscow State University. In the future, I will be able to work both as a manager and as a translator.”

The festive program was prepared by the Center for Cultural and Educational Work of INRTU. The event was held by Sergei Travnikov, actor of the People's Theater "Suburb". Vocal and dance numbers performed by graduates were a pleasant surprise for the guests.
