Students of the Baikal School of BRICS Successfully Performed At the Regional Stage of the Chinese Bridge Competition
Students of the Baikal School of BRICS of INRTU Elena Dzyogan (Master's student of the program “Russian-Chinese Translation”) and Ilya Kaimonov (English program “Journalism”) successfully performed at the qualifying stage of the XIV All-Russian Chinese Bridge Competition. Elena Dzyogan took the second place among 19 participants and got the opportunity to demonstrate her knowledge of the Chinese language in the finals of the contest.
The event was organized on April 15 in Ulan-Ude with the participation of the Center for International Language Exchange and Cooperation under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Irkutsk and Dorji Banzarov Buryat State University (BSU).
In Russia, qualifying rounds for students are held in seven consular districts. The Irkutsk consular district includes five constituent entities of the Russian Federation, where 27 universities are located. Students from the Republic of Buryatia, Irkutsk Region, Transbaikal Region and the Republic of Tyva showed interest in the competition.
Mr. Zhao Chunlu, Consul for Education of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Irkutsk, welcomed the contest participants at BSU.
The students were offered to pass four stages: monologue, linguo-country quiz, creative numbers and impromptu speech. According to experts, all participants demonstrated a high level of knowledge of Chinese language and creative potential.
As Irina Sharaveva, Head of the Department of Humanities of the Baikal School of BRICS, points out, this is the second time this year when the INRTU team has participated in the most prestigious international contest for the best knowledge of Chinese language and culture organized by the Confucius Institute:

“I am proud of the outstanding performance of our students. This year the theme of the first stage was “One World – One Family”. Elena Dzyogan, a talented student of the Baikal School of BRICS, took second place and for the first time in the history of the university will represent INRTU at the All-Russian Chinese Bridge Competition.
Future journalist, second-year student Ilya Kaimonov won in the nomination “Best Creative Performance” and received great support from the jury and the audience.
Thanks to their systematic knowledge of the Chinese language, as well as thorough preparation for the competition, our guys managed to surpass strong opponents and show the best results among Irkutsk universities”.
According to the student Elena Dzyogan, the competition gave her bright emotions, inspiration and new acquaintances:
“The most difficult was impromptu — we needed not only to quickly understand the question, but also to build a logical and competent statement on the given topic within a minute. I saw so many strong participants and amazing performances — it was a real celebration of Chinese language and culture!
I am very grateful to the organizers for the warm atmosphere of the competition. Special thanks to our teachers for their hard work, patience and support at every stage".
Ilya Kaimonov also notes the impeccable organization of the event. The competition allowed the student to meet amazing people who are passionate about Chinese culture:
“The challenge for me was the impromptu: in a minute I had to think about the topic, construct a clear answer and confidently present it. This required not only language skills, but also composure.
The friendly atmosphere between the participants was particularly inspiring. Despite the competitive spirit, everyone supported each other, shared advice and worried about the competitors' performances. And what bright creative numbers we saw!
Without the wise guidance of our teachers and their faith in us, this success would not have been possible”.
Irina Sharaveva and Svetlana Khalmakshinova were awarded with diplomas for quality preparation of students. Chinese teachers and students of the Baikal School of BRICS also made a great contribution to the preparation of the participants, as it was necessary to think over many details (costumes, preparation of video materials, etc.) in order to take part in such a prestigious competition.
It should also be noted that at the regional stage of the Chinese Bridge Competition in Ulan-Ude, the first place was taken by a BSU student. The second place together with the student of INRTU Elena Dzyogan was shared by the student of Transbaikal State University (Chita). The third place went to the students of BSU and Baikal State University of Economics and Law.
