“My Study Life” Multimedia Project Competition Attracted Students from Irkutsk and Norilsk

The School of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication of INRTU organized a competition of multimedia projects on March 20. The event was attended by 34 students of INRTU, East-Siberian Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and Polytechnic College of N.M. Fedorovsky Polar State University.

According to Daria Aripova, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages No. 2, the competition is held annually to improve communication, speaking and writing skills.

“When evaluating the contestants' presentations, the teachers paid attention to the level of foreign language proficiency, artistic expression, informative and originality, structure and logic of speeches. The students impressed the jury members with their fluency and rich vocabulary,” commented Daria Aripova.

The "English Language" section, moderated by Wings of Rostec program participants Vladislav Rudenko and Mikhail Kamenyar, featured 26 presentations. The projects were evaluated by Ekaterina Kholdeeva and Dmitrii Samarin, Associate Professors of the Department of Foreign Languages No. 1, and Maria Egorova, Senior Teacher.

The winner was Anastasia Gushchenko from the School of Architecture, Construction and Design. On the second place – future chemist-technologist Sofia Kuznetsova and Zlata Skvortsova, studying under the target contract with the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. Daria Solovyeva (School of Subsurface Resource Management) and Sedbazar Yesun-Erdene (School of Information Technology and Data Science) rounded out the top three speakers in English.

The section “Russian as a Foreign Language” united eight students. The contestants received feedback from Elena Yu, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages No. 1, Natalia Kirichenko and Olesia Polonskaia, Associate Professors of the Department of Foreign Languages No. 2.

The author of the best paper among international participants was future ecologist Ngwatle Rochelle (South Africa). The second place was taken by Hashi Abdulbasit Mohamed, a student of the Preparatory Department of East-Siberian Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

“I came to Irkutsk with a master's degree in management from Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. At the East-Siberian Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, I study Russian language and social sciences, do physical training and shooting. I like studying because the teachers always support and help me,” Abdulbasit shared his impressions.

The third was Dong BenBeng (China) from the School of Economics, Management and Law. The second-year student, who is mastering international business, spoke about the components of the “smart home”. The report described systems that provide centralized control of video and photo cameras, remote access, comfort and efficiency of use.
