Irkutsk polytechnic students took part in the "Sustainable Development" forum at Moscow State University of Civil Engineering
Irkutsk polytechnic students took part in the 4th International Conference "Sustainable Development" held at Moscow State Construction University. Researchers from INRTU reported on the results of research in the field of transport planning and discussed the design of infrastructure for electric scooters and segways.
According to the organizing committee, the forum brought together over 60 scientists. The event was supported by partners from INRTU and the Vietnam University of Architecture.
INRTU delegation was represented in person by Professor Alexander Mikhailov and Associate Professor Alexey Levashev of the Department of Road Transport. Both are members of the Directorate of the University's Transport Laboratory.
Alexander Mikhailov moderated the section "Sustainable Transport Planning for Cities and Regions". Fifteen people from Moscow, Irkutsk and Rostov-on-Don universities were interested in that area.
According to the professor, the lecturers paid attention to the development of the system of public passenger transport. Great interest was aroused by the presentation of colleagues from the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, which is engaged in developing norms and guidelines for the design of the infrastructure for personal mobility devices (CIM). These include electric scooters, segways and gyroscooters, which have become popular.
"It is important to decide on the legal regulations. I.e. it is necessary to understand - what means owners will be able to move in the general flow with pedestrians, and who legally will be a participant of road traffic on a special track. The peer study is preceded by hearings that are taking place at federal level. In particular, the classification of SIMs according to their mass and speed is being approved.
In the Russian Federation, only MSCU is beginning to study these issues. The INRTU Transport Laboratory has great potential for such activities. We are ready to perform a scientific analysis of the demand for individual mobility means in Irkutsk. For the work to be effective, we need to get tracks with information on the distance and routes of SIM movement from the rolling stock," emphasised Alexander Mikhailov.
Alexey Levashev was entrusted with the role of section secretary. He also reported on the main points of his doctoral thesis related to the development of transport models for agglomerations. The author plans to defend his thesis in the next year.
In addition, representatives of transport and architectural specialties of INRTU joined the conference remotely. Maxim Sharov, Associate Professor at the Department of Road Transport, made a presentation on the planning of sustainable public passenger transport systems. The scientist obtained original results on the assessment of the impact of transport accessibility of the area on the cost of housing. The theses delivered at the forum are part of his doctoral thesis.
First-year PhD student Olga Pavlova also spoke via teleconference. She gave a presentation entitled "Estimation of transport demand based on territorial characteristics". The young author's research luggage includes experience in digitization of territorial use characteristics in Irkutsk and agglomeration. In the future, the graduate student plans to carry out similar work with data concerning the Moscow region.
Note that the scientific adviser and supervisor of Alexey Levashev, Maxim Sharov and Olga Pavlova is Professor Alexander Mikhailov.
In addition, Sergei Aleksandrov, associate professor at the Urban Design Department, gave an online presentation at the event. He devoted his presentation to the study of street and road network design standards.
