International Students of the Preparatory Department Of INRTU Celebrated the "Russian New Year"
‘’Russian New Year‘’ took place at the Art Department of INRTU at the end of December. During the celebration, the international students of the Preparatory Department presented creative numbers. About 200 students of the Preparatory Department participated in the event.
The organizers were Alla Antonova, Director of the Department of Linguodidactics of Russian Language, Nina Berngard, Head of the International Office and Kirill Porotov and Alina Dmitrieva, specialists in educational and methodological work.
The preparation for the event lasted several weeks. Students together with teachers were busy preparing their numbers, practicing songs and memorizing poems, as well as decorating the concert hall of the Art Department. The hosts – students of the Preparatory Department Abashova Yyldyz from Turkmenistan and Onguene Ange Romeo from Cameroon – were also preparing.
The event was opened with the song “Happy New Year” by Mongolian students. The program included the songs in French by students from Cameroon, as well as the song “To Baikal” performed by Li Kaisu in Chinese and Russian. The Mongolian students sang “Song about Bears” and Turkmen students learned a song about a Christmas Tree.
“We have been preparing for the holiday for a very long time. It was extremely important for us to perform at a high level in front of everyone who came to the concert. We tried to show how well we study and what results we have achieved,” explained Tashov Aidogdy, a student from Turkmenistan.
Students from Africa performed national dances that are traditionally associated with festive celebrations in their home countries.
Participants read poems in Chinese and Russian. The poem “Yuanzhi” written by Wang Anshi, an excerpt from Pushkin's “Eugene Onegin”, as well as the poems “Snowball” and “Near the Christmas tree” were recited. Some groups recorded video greetings, introducing themselves and wishing everyone a happy holiday.
According to the organizers, one of the most memorable performances was the skit “Kolobok” interpreted by international students. Participants created original costumes and demonstrated their acting skills.
The holiday ended with the performance of songs “We Wish You Happiness” and “Happy New Year, Mom! Happy New Year, Dad!”. The audience was able to join a small flash mob in the format of a disco.
“I am very pleased to see how responsibly our students approached the preparation of their performances and how they improved their Russian language skills. Of course, this event was a celebration, not a competition or a demonstration of knowledge, but watching the progress in language learning is very important for us, faculty and staff of the department. Our students are very good! I express my gratitude to the teachers and all the organizers of the holiday who prepared such a wonderful concert,” Alla Antonova commented.
She also added that such practices play an important role in the educational process.
