INRTU Visited by D. Tuyaa, Widow of Shagdaryn Otgonbileg, Erdenet Mining Corporation’s First Director and INRTU Graduate
D. Tuyaa, widow of Shagdariin Otgonbileg – an alumnus of INRTU and an outstanding mining survey engineer known as the first Mongolian general director of the Erdenet Mining Corporation – visited the university. Mrs. D. Tuyaa and her compatriots held informal talks with Rector Mikhail Korniakov and Professor Aleksandr Zagibalov.
D. Tuyaa received her pharmaceutical education in Irkutsk and defended her doctoral dissertation in Germany. Previously, she served as Mongolia’s Minister of Health and Member of Parliament. Her husband Shagdaryn Otgonbileg graduated from the Irkutsk National Research Technical University with a degree in mine engineering and surveying. In 1989, Shagdariin Otgonbileg became the first Mongolian general director of the Erdenet Mining Corporation. The engineer brought the mining enterprise to an international level by establishing exports of its products to dozens of countries around the world. Shagdariin Otgonbileg died in a plane crash in 2001. In his honor, a memorial plaque was installed at the university’s School of Subsurface Resource Management.
During her visit to INRTU, Mrs. D. Tuyaa laid flowers at the memorial plaque of her husband Shagdaryn Otgonbileg. Alongside her, her compatriots, Rector Mikhail Korniakov, and Professor Aleksandr Zagibalov honored the memory of the outstanding son of the Mongolian people.
In his welcoming remarks, Rector Mikhail Korniakov stated:

“We honor
the long-standing friendship between our nations. The university is proud of
its Mongolian graduates who, through their work and professionalism, bring
renown to the Irkutsk National Research Technical University and to Russian
engineering education”.

Mrs. D. Tuyaa thanked INRTU for the warm reception, its contribution to training highly qualified specialists, and its support of Russian-Mongolian friendship. She wished the INRTU community success in scientific and technological endeavors.
Acting Head of the Department of Mine Surveying and Geodesy at INRTU Aleksandr Zagibalov is well acquainted with D. Tuyaa and knew her husband well.

"Shagdaryn Otgonbileg was an outstanding figure in Mongolia. He was a Hero of Labor of Mongolia. The Erdenet Complex Higher Education Institution, established in Erdenet bears his name. Shagdaryn Otgonbileg defended his Candidate of Sciences (PhD) dissertation under the supervision of INRTU Professor Gennady Bazanov. The distinguished alumnus never forgot his alma mater when he visited Irkutsk, he always paid his respects to his former teachers. Today his widow visited us. Such friendly visits are very important for INRTU, which has trained an entire cohort of highly qualified specialists for Mongolia’s mining industry and energy sector," stated Aleksandr Zagibalov.
