INRTU Student Daria Melnichuk Finishes among Top 10 in Cross-Country Skiing at All-Russian Winter Universiade

In Ufa, junior athletes competed in a 5 km classical-style cross-country race at the 9th All-Russian Winter Universiade. INRTU student Daria Melnichuk secured a place among the top ten. A total of 96 athletes from 36 educational institutions across the country took part in the race.

In a tightly contested race for the medals, athletes representing Penza State University claimed victory. Fourth-year student Daria Melnichuk, who is training to become a specialist in economics and finance of the fuel and energy complex, finished eighth.

As the INRTU cross-country skiing team member noted, she took up the sport after enrolling at the university:

“Selection for the Universiade took place at interuniversity competitions, for which we prepared under the guidance of coach Andrey Vayner-Krotov. Our team won the qualification round and earned a place in the finals. I am very proud to represent my university and to compete in such prestigious events.
The Universiade is held at a high level, and the courses are excellently prepared. We are not only competing, but also exploring Ufa’s landmarks and going on excursions”.

Four other athletes from INRTU also competed at the Winter Universiade: Aleksey Fedorov, Maksim Ivanov, Ilya Kuznetsov and Denis Tuboltsev.

The cross-country skiing program in Ufa includes five disciplines: relay, sprint, team sprint, as well as individual start races in classical and freestyle formats. In total, more than 260 athletes from 35 regions of Russia, representing 41 universities, took part in the competition. The Universiade is held with the support of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation.
