INRTU staff visited Sri Lanka to strengthen scientific and educational cooperation
The INRTU delegation, led by Vice-Rector for International Affairs Stepan Bykov, visited Sri Lanka fr om May 14-18. The purpose of the visit was to establish partnership relations with leading universities of the country, promote educational programs of Irkutsk National Research Technical University, and attract Lankan students to study at INRTU.
The program of the visit was quite diverse. The delegation met with Maria Popova, Head of the Russian House in Colombo, wh ere they discussed the prospects of cooperation in terms of supporting talented Lankan applicants and joint projects to popularize the Russian language among students and teachers in Sri Lanka.
With the support of the Russian House, negotiations were conducted with the University of Colombo, Kelaniya University, and Sri Jayawardenepura University. During the talks, the parties discussed several promising areas of partnership, including academic exchange of students and teachers, joint research, internships, and advanced training programs for Russian language learners.
An important event was the INRTU Open Day, organized at Sirimavo Balika Vidyalaya Women's College. Sirimavo Balika Vidyalaya Women's College is one of the most prestigious educational institutions in Colombo. INRTU representatives, Anna Melenteva, Klimentii Batoroev, and Elizaveta Ivanova, informed the students about educational opportunities at INRTU, the lifestyle in Irkutsk, and the distinct characteristics of Siberia.
Additionally, the delegation met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Sri Lanka, Levan Jagaryan, to discuss matters pertaining to the admission of Lankan students to study in Russia.
The visit of Irkutsk National Research Technical University representatives to Sri Lanka was a significant step in developing a new and promising market for educational services. Sri Lanka is expressing a heightened interest in Russian higher education, particularly in technical and engineering disciplines. Further development of cooperation with Sri Lanka will allow the university to increase the number of international students, implement joint research projects, and strengthen academic exchanges.
