The first pilot version of the rating of universities in BRICS countries was prepared by the Association of Rating Compilers.
"The rating is based on the model of the international Three University Missions Ranking, taking into account the national features of BRICS members. The coefficients of indicators in the methodology have been calibrated. For example, students' victories at international competitions are now valued more highly, while the university budget has become less important. For the first time, we also introduced a criterion that takes into account the number of scientific papers in cooperation with foreign colleagues from BRICS countries,” explained the Association of Rating Compilers' Director General Dmitry Grishankov. The leaders of the pilot ranking of BRICS universities were Peking University (1st place), Lomonosov Moscow State University (2nd place) and Tsinghua University (3rd place).
The largest number of ranking participants is located in China (207 universities). The second country by the number of participants in the rating was Russia (161 universities), the third place was taken by India (93 universities). BRICS member with the highest concentration of strong universities outside Eurasia is Brazil (55 universities). Iran is represented in the ranking by 27 universities; all other member states have less than 20 universities in the final list.
