INRTU English-Taught Bachelor’s Degree Program “Power Electrical Engineering” – A Pathway to Career Success
INRTU offers applicants to apply for an English-taught bachelor’s degree program “Power Electrical Engineering”. Students of the program actively participate in international internships, and graduates build successful careers in Russian and international companies.
The program has been implemented since 2018 at the Baikal School of BRICS under the direction of its supervisor Associate Professor Dmitriy Karamov. It aims to train highly skilled professionals possessing advanced competencies in the field of energy and fluent in English. Students can also learn a second foreign language – with Chinese being the most popular choice.
Over four years, students master the functioning and operation of energy systems and complexes, study disciplines in the fields of energy and electrical engineering, and gain an understanding of renewable energy and smart grids. A strong focus on language training opens doors to internships at partner universities abroad.
Dmitriy Karamov highlights the program’s advantages:

“From their first year, students gain paid industrial internships at strategic energy facilities – from the largest power plants to oil and gas industry enterprises, gold mining sites, and coal mines. This helps them connect with future employers and prove their skills early on.
Energy students proficient in English undertake internships at top universities in Asia. For example, at Beijing Institute of Technology, they enhance their skills in automation processes within energy systems. Thanks to this mix of advanced theory, practice in industry settings, and international internships, most of our students receive job offers from leading energy, oil and gas, and mining companies before graduation”.
Students regularly compete in national and international engineering championships, win grants for innovative projects, and earn prestigious scholarships. Annually, students of the “Power Electrical Engineering” educational program participate in competitions, championships, and Olympiads at the All-Russian and international levels, win grants and earn prestigious scholarships.
David Yakovlev, now a fourth-year student, began his career at Irkutsk Oil Company through the “University-INK” partnership:

“Students are involved in research activities right from the start of their studies, which expands our opportunities. For instance, last year our team became finalists in the CASE-IN championship, and recently I won the INK Scientific and Technical Conference in the 'Best Practice' category,” shared David Yakovlev.
Senior student Elena Khokhrina interned at the Kovykta gas field’s power engineering department:

“I was gladly accepted for the internship; recruiters were particularly attracted by my good academic performance and knowledge of foreign languages. The internship was intensive and interesting, and most importantly – they are ready to hire me after graduating from university,” the student noted.
Among the successful graduates of the English-taught program are Danil Volygin and Denis Vsevolodov, who are promising employees at En+ Group. During their studies, they managed to complete an internship at Beijing Institute of Technology and take part in prestigious engineering competitions.
“Our achievements allowed us join Russia’s top energy holding. Knowledge of English and Chinese provides significant advantages due to cooperation with colleagues from Southeast Asia. The main reward for our efforts in the company is not only a decent salary but also invaluable experience, recognition from colleagues, and the opportunity for continuous professional growth,” the graduates shared their impressions.
