INRTU Announces Results of Foreign-Language Multimedia Presentation Contest “My Major as a Step toward an Innovative Future”
Irkutsk National Research Technical University (INRTU) hosted a foreign-language multimedia presentation contest titled “My Major as a Step toward an Innovative Future”. The event brought together 36 students from INRTU, the Togliatti Academy of Management, Saint Petersburg State University of Economics, Chuvash State Pedagogical University named after I. Ya. Yakovlev, Far Eastern Federal University, INRTU College of Mechanical Engineering, Bender Higher Art College named after V. I. Postoikin, and the East Siberian Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The contest was organized by the School of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication at INRTU. The competition, held in English, German, and Russian as a foreign language, was conducted by Associate Professors Pauline Yan'kova and Ekaterina Kholdeeva.
“The presentation contest has been held at our university for five years and has become an important part of student life. Each year we see participants’ skills improving – students grow more confident in presenting their material, actively use modern visualization tools, and develop public speaking skills. This year, we have observed a deeper engagement with professional topics and a more creative approach to presenting technical information. The contest plays an important role in students’ professional development, helping them build skills essential for modern engineering careers,”
said Ekaterina Kholdeeva.
The contest aimed to support students’ comprehensive development – from fostering interest in foreign languages and technology to enhancing independent work and public speaking skills. Participants were tasked with presenting their field of study as an “innovation of the future”, requiring not only in-depth knowledge of their discipline but also the ability to envision its long-term prospects.
In the English and German sections, first place was awarded to first-year student Vasilina Monakhova from the School of Aircraft Construction, Mechanical Engineering and Transport at INRTU. Second place was shared by Artemiy Tyuryumov (INRTU School of High Technologies) and Polina Sharipova (INRTU School of Power Engineering). Third place went to Aleksander Antipin (INRTU School of Economics, Management and Law) and Alina Nosyreva (INRTU School of Architecture, Construction and Design).
According to aspiring architect Alina Nosyreva, the value of the contest lies in its focus on modern tools and technologies essential for professional practice. To effectively bring creative ideas to life, architects must use building information modeling (BIM), digital twins, augmented and virtual reality, as well as 3D printing. Today’s architect is not merely a building designer but a synthesizer of technology, social needs, and aesthetics.
“In my presentation, I spoke about the Grasshopper plugin, which I use in my studies. The software is designed for geometric modeling and allows you to write algorithms instead of building models manually. This significantly expands its capabilities and makes the process faster and more efficient,”
Alina Nosyreva said.
International students from Mongolia, Vietnam, Africa, and DPRK delivered their presentations in Russian.
In the “Russian as a Foreign Language” section, first place went to Ho Jun Hyok (INRTU School of High Technologies). Second place was awarded to Pak Thae Song (INRTU School of Aircraft Construction, Mechanical Engineering and Transport), while third place went to Kamaal Abdirisak Abdullahi (East Siberian Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation).
The event not only contributed to the development of public speaking and IT skills but also provided a platform for creative expression, demonstrating how language learning opens the door to an innovative future.
