INRTU and Nanjing University of Science and Technology Plan to Launch Joint Educational Program in Industrial Design
The opening of a new joint program in Industrial Design was discussed by the INRTU Rector, Mikhail Korniakov, and the President of Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Mr. Yang Yixin.
President Yang Yixin stated that Nanjing University of Science and Technology has experience in implementing educational projects with Russian universities, such as ITMO University, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, and D. I. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. He expressed interest in joint personnel training with Irkutsk National Research Technical University.
Rector of INRTU, Mikhail Korniakov, thanked his Chinese colleague for the support and expressed confidence that the joint program will be in high demand among applicants from both countries. Training industrial designers is a response to the needs of the future economy. Engineering solutions and new products require ergonomic, aesthetic, and user-friendly execution
The joint program is planned to be implemented at the School of Design, Art and Media. A presentation on the School’s activities was given by its Dean, Mr. Xu Wei.
He reported that the School of Design, Art and Media was established in 2010. Training is conducted in the following areas: industrial design, environmental design, informatics design, transport design, and visual communication design. Currently, it has 869 students – 655 master’s students, and 205 postgraduate students. The Industrial Design program at Nanjing University of Science and Technology is highly sought after and ranks among the top 16 in this field among Chinese universities. Mr. Xu Wei noted that since 2013, the School has been cooperating with Coventry University, a leading UK university in design, and has launched a joint program in Automotive Design with them, which has 50 students.
The parties agreed that students will study for two years at INRTU – specifically at the School of Architecture, Construction and Design – and for two years at Nanjing University of Science and Technology. Upon completion of the program, graduates will receive two diplomas: one Chinese and one Russian.
