INRTU and Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria signed a memorandum of understanding
Irkutsk National Research Technical University and Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN, Kano State) have entered into a memorandum of understanding in an online format. The universities will co-operate in science and education. The document was signed on 3 June by Rector of INRTU Mikhail Korniakov and President of MAAUN Mohammad Israr.
Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria is a private, non-profit university opened in 2022. Students are educated in economics, journalism, IT, law, mathematics, earth sciences, engineering and medicine.
Rector of INRTU Mikhail Korniakov gave a brief presentation of the university. He stressed that INRTU is a participant of the Priority 2030 Programme and is among the 100 best universities in Russia. Engineers are developing three strategic projects in the mining and geological industry, aircraft engineering, low- and medium-tonnage chemistry. Mikhail Korniakov is confident that INRTU and MAAUN have great prospects in scientific, educational and innovative work.

‘Joint projects with Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria will open new opportunities for students, teachers and researchers. We draw the attention of our colleagues to the Siberian School of Geosciences, a key actor in the field of subsoil use. The Institute conducts large-scale field work using author's technologies in Russia, India and China.
The exchange of experience with scientists from Nigeria will contribute to the development of higher engineering education in the two countries,’ Mikhail Korniakov addressed the MAAUN management.
The President of partner university, Professor Mohammad Israr, also described co-operation with INRTU as promising. He introduced Mohammad Abubakar, who has been working in the Department of Ore Geology of the Siberian School of Geosciences for more than a year.
Alexander Parshin, Scientific Director of SSG, noted the serious professional background of the visiting professor, including medical geology, food security, ecology, oil and gas geology. Mohammed Abubakar has participated in commercial projects, including trips to the Eastern Sayan Mountains, actively published in scientific publications, and studied technologies that can be promoted in African markets. At the moment, Mohammed Abubakar is busy exporting education - he invites applicants from Nigeria to the Siberian School of Geosciences for English-language programs.
