INRTU and Hulunbuir University Extend Cooperation
Irkutsk National Research Technical University and Hulunbuir University, Inner Mongolia, Northern China, a major multi-disciplinary university – have agreed to expand their cooperation. These agreements were reached during the visit of the INRTU delegation to Hulun Buir in early April 2025.
Hulunbuir University of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Northern China, is located in the Hailar District of Hulun Buir City. The university maintains ties with many Chinese and foreign universities. Taking advantage of its geographical location, it is actively establishing cooperation with Russian universities.
A cooperation agreement between the two universities was signed in 2014. Today the parties plan to intensify cooperation in the fields of science and education in general, to resume student internships in Construction and Architecture, Mining and Energy in particular. Previously, students from Hulunbuir University had already completed language internships at INRTU.
"Hulunbuir University is known for its strong Russian language training, which is due to the proximity of the region to Russia. We plan to invite Russian language teachers from the Chinese university to participate in our language summer schools," noted Stepan Bykov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs.
As part of the cooperation, it is planned to develop an English-language double degree program in the field of energy. Chinese students will study for the first two years at Hulunbuir University, and then continue their studies at INRTU.
In addition, INRTU plans to invite students from Hulunbuir University to participate in the international Engineers iPolytech Olympiad. The winners of the competition will have the opportunity to enter INRTU on state-funded places within the framework of Federal Agency for International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo) quotas in the fields of Energy and Information Technology.
In addition to academic exchange, the parties agreed to promote the strengthening of cultural ties. INRTU has invited colleagues from Hulunbuir University to participate in the Days of Chinese Culture, which will be held in October this year, as well as in the celebration of the Buryat and Mongolian Tsagan-Sar cultural festival.
