The gala concert of the XIII International Festival “Siberia – Territory of Peace and Harmony” was held in the concert hall of INRTU. The program included the best creative numbers of the festival of students fr om Mongolia, China, Nigeria, Indonesia and Tajikistan.
As previously reported, the tradition of ethno-forum was born thirteen years ago in the dormitory № 12, wh ere the Day of Nations was celebrated. This year about 30 art exhibitions, contests and concerts took place within the framework of the festival. Each of the events was aimed at the formation of mutual respect for different nations, adaptation of international students in the Russian university.
The participants and guests of the gala concert were welcomed by Vladimir Smirnov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of INRTU.
“INRTU can be called the most multinational university in the Angara Region. So it is fair that the ethno-project is held on our premises. The event introduces students to the cultural features of other countries, teaches them to respect their groupmates and dormitory neighbors. The festival also contributes to a harmonious and friendly atmosphere at the university,” says Vladimir Smirnov.
The concert program was opened by the song “My Motherland – Siberia”, which perfectly emphasizes the theme of the festival. The composition was performed by the Folk club of the Russian song “Kalina”. Students living in dormitories performed Buryat yokhor and modern dances.
Mongolia was represented by Munkhkhuu Mungunshagai, a student of the School of Economics, Management and Law, who artistically performed a song in his native language. The evening was also brightened up by the performances of students from China, Uzbekistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Nekruz Khamidov, a native of Tajikistan, impressed the audience with his virtuoso violin playing.
Nworie Chukwuemeka, who performs under the pseudonym Jayfresh, took part in the gala concert. Nworie Chukwuemeka studies at the Preparatory Department of the Baikal School of BRICS. According to the student, he became interested in singing back in his home country of Nigeria.
The youngest participants of the ethno-project were the students of Martin Ghazaryan's duduk school. At the gala concert, the aspiring musicians played the duduk and the dhol (an Armenian percussion instrument) under the guidance of the maestro.
The final performance was truly colorful – the choir of Korean students together with "Kalina" performed the soviet song.
Summarizing the results of the event, Tatyana Dashko, Head of the Center for Cultural and Mass Educational Work of INRTU, noted that the festival helps to discover new talents:
“Today's concert was held in a very warm and emotional atmosphere, in the best traditions of amateur art.
All the audience was treated to a real ethno-holiday. Performances of African and Korean students were the highlights of the program”.
Altana Syrenova, a first-year student of the School of Architecture, Construction and Design of INRTU, who lives in dormitory No. 12, shared her impressions of the gala concert:
“I came to Irkutsk from the Tunka Region. I decided to join the festival to make new friends and have a good time. We prepared several dance numbers reflecting the traditions of the Buryat people especially for the gala concert”.
