“From the Volga to the Yenisei”: INRTU Celebrated the Start of Student Life for First-Year Students

A ceremonial initiation for first-year students was held at INRTU. The students successfully passed all the challenges, made new acquaintances, and learned interesting facts about the university. The celebration for all the university's institutes was organized by the team of the Trade Union Students Club.

The newcomers were congratulated by the Director of the School of Subsurface Resource Management, Aleksei Shevchenko:

“Welcome to INRTU. This year our university celebrates an anniversary – 95 years, and we are glad that you have chosen us and become part of our large, friendly family. For some, this journey will last three or four years, while others will tie their destiny to INRTU for a longer period.

Charge up with energy and prepare for a journey that will be not only long but also interesting. Be active; find a balance between studies, creative pursuits, and sports. Then your student years will be remembered as one of the best periods of your life”.

The Chairman of the Trade Union Students Club, Dmitry Volchatov, wished the new INRTU students to remember this day:

“We thank everyone who joined this event today.

We hope you will find new friends and have an enjoyable time”.

For several hours, the students moved from one station to another, completing tasks focused on teamwork, agility, and quick-wittedness. All the contests were held in the style of Ancient Rus’ under the slogan: “From the Volga to the Yenisei”. The students drew posters under the guidance of rusalkas (mermaid-like spirits), danced and sang with bogatyrs (epic heroes), and crafted costumes under the watchful eye of Zmey Gorynych (a dragon-like creature).

According to future heat and power engineer Polina Sharipova, the initiation was fun and interesting. A particular impression was made by the get-to-know-you game “Two Truths and One Lie”.

“Everything is still ahead, but I can already say with confidence that I really enjoy studying at INRTU. September is a month for trying things out; I want to get to know the university better and test my skills in many areas. Right now, I'm particularly attracted to science, and I've already become part of the student scientific community. I also plan to join the chess club or take up orienteering,”
shared Polina.

Mikhail Tashlykov from the School of Power Engineering also managed to soak up the positive atmosphere:

“I haven't regretted for a second choosing INRTU. It was important for me to get into an engineering specialty. I've been preparing since the ninth grade and studied at an energy school. My impressions of the university are very positive; I was particularly impressed by the large-scale assembly on September 1.
I try to attend every student event. Besides studying, I want to try my hand at being a presenter and sign up for public speaking courses. I'd like to learn how to win over an audience, manage attention, and steer a conversation in the right direction”.
