BS BRICS Student Successfully Competed in Track and Field in Beijing

Student of the Baikal School of BRICS at INRTU Nikita Vashchuk took part in international track and field competitions held on October 26 at the stadium of the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). INRTU student became the winner in the 4×100 meters relay as part of an international team and took third place in the running long jump.

In addition, Nikita Vashchuk was among the prize-winners, taking fourth place in his discipline – the 800 meters run – and also finished fourth in the 4×400 meters relay.

Nikita came to Beijing in September as part of an exchange program. At the Beijing Institute of Technology, he is studying “Computer Science and Technology”. According to him, the education system in China is in many ways similar to the Russian system, which helped him adapt more quickly. Upon learning about the upcoming competitions, Nikita applied and passed the selection stage. Students fr om all colleges of the Beijing Institute of Technology participated in the competitions, so the competition was very high.

As part of the program, competitions in pull-ups and “snowball” – a team game wh ere participants must run from one point to another – were also held.

“I started actively participating in track and field in 2022, and within a year, I earned my first sports ranking," Nikita Vashchuk shared.

The organization of the competitions in China made a great impression on him:

“The approach to organizing sports events in China differs from Russian rules. Each discipline is accompanied by a volunteer who assists and translates from Chinese to English. There are many fans in the stands. Before the start, there is an opening ceremony with a parade of colleges and costumed performances. It is a real celebration of sports, to which the university pays significant attention”.

After completing his internship, Nikita plans to return to Russia and continue participating in track and field competitions. His successes abroad have become an excellent example of how students can showcase their abilities and achieve high results, combining athletic achievements with cultural exchange. Such events contribute to the development of intercultural ties and the promotion of sports among youth.
