“Ambassadors of INRTU”: Graduate Tien Dat Chieu Is Building a Career in Data Architecture in the Netherlands
INRTU continues the series of publications “Ambassadors of INRTU” dedicated to the success stories of international alumni. Tien Dat Chieu from Vietnam, who graduated from INRTU 10 years ago, is now responsible for working with Big Data at De Heus, a royal Netherlands animal feed company.
Tien Dat Chieu shared that before coming to Irkutsk, he studied economics at the Vietnam National University (Ho Chi Minh City). Due to his excellent academic performance in the first year, he received a state scholarship to enroll in a Russian university.

“I believed that I could get a better education in Russia. The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training found a place for me to study. I chose the specialization “Finance and Credit” because INRTU produces strong specialists in this economic profile. After five years of living here, I think I was lucky,” says Tien Dat Chieu.
During his studies at INRTU, Tien Dat has published about 10 scientific papers, including in the German publishing house LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing. In 2015, his monograph “Applying Theory to the Vietnamese Stock Market” was published. The author's scientific research was conducted under the supervision of Associate Professor Georgii Shalamov.
Right after graduating from INRTU, Tien Dat Chieu became a scholarship student of the Erasmus Mundus Master program. This gave him an opportunity to study in the Master's program at the University of Paris. He completed his studies in 2017, successfully defending his Master's thesis on “Portfolio insurance strategy: empirical analysis of a frontier market – the case of Vietnam”.
In 2018, Tien Dat Chieu returned to Vietnam and worked as a Data Analyst at a local bank. After a year, he was hired as a Data Scientist at De Heus. At first, Tien Dat Chieu worked in the Vietnamese branch, and then the promising employee was invited to the head office in the Netherlands. De Heus is a large producer of feed for farm animals, birds and fish. The company has a privileged in the Netherlands status of “royal”, has more than 80 plants. The products are supplied to 75 countries.
At the company, Tien Dat is a Data Solution Architect, i.e. a specialist working at the intersection of IT and economics. He is responsible for designing and implementing data solutions to support business needs. He analyzes and optimizes data processing to improve the efficiency of production processes. Tien Dat also provides technical support to colleagues working in 20 overseas offices.
The graduate emphasizes that the education he received at INRTU has helped him succeed in life:
“INRTU gave me solid knowledge and skills that became the foundation for my future career. Thanks to the university, including scientific activities, I developed critical thinking, analytical skills and the ability to solve complex problems. My knowledge of Russian helped me to master other languages more easily, as well as to integrate into European society. All this contributed to my development as a professional and a confident person”.
He keeps in touch with Russian professors and friends. He most often corresponds with Associate Professor Georgii Shalamov. The graduate emphasized that the associate professor helped him make his first steps in science and thanks to his research papers and letter of recommendation he received a scholarship to study at a master's program in Europe.
The series of publications about successful international graduates was opened by the article about Nguyen Thanh Tung. He studied construction and BIM-technologies at INRTU. His studies helped him to defend his PhD thesis in Japan and build his academic career.
