“Baikal Beasts” Team to Represent INRTU at International Battle of Robots Championship

The “Baikal Beasts” team from Irkutsk Research Technical University will take part in the second stage of the International Battle of Robots Championship. The competition will be held on October 11 at the Patriot Expo Center in the Moscow Region. The battles between the young engineers can be watched live online.

The championship will feature 28 teams from Russia, India, and Brazil. Participants include teams from INRTU, RTU MIREA, SPbSUT, Vavilov University, SPbPU, Samara University, and other leading universities. The teams will compete in two disciplines: the “Battle of Robots” in the up to 110 kg heavyweight class and the “Battle of Mini-Robot” for machines up to 1.5 kg. The contestants enter wheeled combat robots into the ring, equipped with weapons to damage their opponents. Each battle lasts up to three minutes, during which time a robot must disable its opponent.

Team captain Maksim Popov explained that a completely new 110-kilogram robot has been built for this season:

“We replaced the frame made of steel angles with one milled from 40-mm thick aluminum. Instead of thin steel armor, we made thick armor from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene. We abandoned ready-made brushed motors for movement in favor of brushless motors with our own custom gearbox. We cast the wheels ourselves. The robot's weapon has become larger; it now weighs 24 kg and spins at a rate of 8000 revolutions per minute”.

You can support the “Baikal Beasts” team during the live broadcast on October 11, from 11:40 to 19:30 Moscow Time.

Let’s wish our team good luck! May their effort, talent, and perseverance lead them to high results and new achievements.
