Introduction to Business

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of management and business. It covers managers and the environment, including functions of management, managerial roles, external and internal environments, globalization, stakeholders, ethics, and corporate social responsibility. Students study strategizing, planning, decision making, organization architecture, control systems, organizational culture, and high-performance teams. The course also covers leading, staffing, motivating, managing attitudes and well-being, power and influence, effective leadership and communication, and managing innovation and change.

The goal of mastering the discipline

To introduce students to their future profession, forming a comprehensive understanding of the field of study, its key concepts, and professional competencies.

The skills you get

  • Know basic economic concepts, including supply, demand, competition, and market structures, as well as basic principles of management (planning, organizing, motivating, controlling).
  • Be able to apply basic economic and managerial theories to analyze market conditions and internal processes in an organization.
  • Master skills in using basic economic and managerial tools for assessing business conditions and developing management decisions.

Topics covered

  • The course introduces students to the fundamentals of management and business. It covers managers and the environment (functions of management, managerial roles, external and internal environments, globalization, stakeholders, ethics, and corporate social responsibility), strategizing (planning, decision making, strategy, managing operations), organization architecture (organizing, designing structure, control systems, organizational culture, high-performance teams), and leading (staffing, motivating, managing attitudes and well-being, power and influence, effective leadership and communication, managing innovation and change). Assessment includes reports, oral surveys, creative tasks, tests, projects, and an exam.
