Cross-Cultural Psychology
This course develops students' understanding of cultural differences and their impact on communication in the international business environment. It covers the foundations of communication theory, cultural studies, value orientations, attitude to time and nature, and the influence of cultural characteristics on corporate culture. Students learn to analyze the role of intercultural communications in the context of globalization, identify elements of cultural identity, and analyze cultural stereotypes.

- Know the foundations of the theory of intercultural communication; approaches to its study; types and levels of intercultural communication; features of interaction between cultures and subcultures.
- Be able to analyze the role of intercultural communications in the context of globalization; identify elements of cultural identity; analyze cultural stereotypes and ways they arise.
- Master skills in making communicative decisions based on identifying cultural specificity and its parameters.
Topics covered
- The course covers the foundations of communication theory (models of communication, verbal and non-verbal communication, maxims of communication), foundations of cultural studies (culture, cultural code, norms and values, Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck's theory of value orientations), relationships between people in the theory of value orientations (individualism/collectivism, attitude to rules and laws, expression of emotions, linearity/authoritarianism, status acquisition), attitude to time (monochronic and polychronic cultures), attitude to nature (mastery, submission, harmony), the influence of cultural characteristics on corporate culture (family, Eiffel Tower, guided missile, incubator), and regional cultural specificity (culture shock, acculturation, national character, stereotypes).
