Relay Protection of Power Supply Systems

This course is about the basics of relay protection of power supply systems. The course introduces students to the requirements for relay protection, types of faults in power supply systems, instrument transformers for relay protection. The course has topics about analog and digital relay protection equipment, non-directional and directional overcurrent protections, differential protections, protections of transformers and power lines, basics of automation in power supply systems. To master the course, students need basic knowledge in the field of electrical engineering, transient processes in power supply systems, design and purpose of primary and secondary electrical equipment of substations. This course is the basis for the graduate work of students and for future professional activities in the field of electrical engineering.
