The School of BRICS has graduated its first bachelors

The School of BRICS successfully defended its first undergraduate students on 24–25 June. The INRTU department trained 17 people in the English-language programs Environmental Science Engineering, Power Electrical Energy, International Business, and Sustainable Innovative Economy.

Recall that BS BRICS was established in September 2017. The pilot enrolment took place in 2018 in three directions. Currently, the school has students and master’s students from 33 countries, including Russia, India, China and Brazil. Future specialists are trained in nine educational programmes. Lectures are given by 22 professors from Russia, the USA, Iran, Australia, India, Vietnam, Hungary, Nigeria and China.

The five energy graduates presented their theses on June 24. Four polytechnic students received an «excellent» grade. In addition, Anastasia Ayusheyeva graduated with a «diploma with honors». During her third year she also successfully completed a one-year internship at Wroclaw University of Technology (Poland).

Her diploma project focused on designing a centralised solar photovoltaic system under real climatic conditions. She also analysed the system’s positive impact on the environment. The scientific supervisor was Konstantin Suslov, Head of the Department of Power Supply and Electrical Engineering.

«The Solar is one of the most current alternative energy sources. For me this topic is the most interesting, I have studied many disciplines related to renewable energy sources in Poland and at BRICS.

Initially, I was planning to enter the School of Energy at INRTU, but after discovering the English-language programme, I chose the BRICS. Studying at this School made it possible not only to get a promising occupation, but also to improve my English skills by communicating with native speakers," says Anastasia.

The graduate added that her B2 English skills were already acquired at a school in the village of Elantsy. At Irkutsk Polytechnic she managed to improve her skills to the C1 level. Currently Anastasia Ayusheyeva plans to continue her studies at theBRICS School.

The other graduates focused their research on renewable energy sources and topical environmental issues, mathematical modelling of batteries for power supply systems. They also analysed the economic benefits of a wind farm and looked at optimising energy distribution in a photovoltaic system.

The polytechnic students, who are studying international business, presented their papers on 25 June. This summer, eight people will graduate in this field, five of whom received an «excellent» grade for their thesis.

In their diploma projects they were on relevant topics. For example, Wang Xuan studied the marketplace as an e-commerce business model and its development. Liu Xiaowen presented the development of a programme for the adaptation of international students at the Russian university. Polytechnic students also addressed such topics as innovative marketing communications, management of intercultural communication in multinational companies.

Four undergraduate students in the Sustainable Innovative Economy programme investigated the impact of foreign direct investment on the Russian economy under COVID-19, the development of Internet finance in China and other topical issues.
