The regional iPolytech conference started at INRTU

The first regional iPolytech conference started at INRTU on November, 23. The mixed format forum united scientists, students, industrial partners, and representatives of development institutions from Russia, China, Mongolia and Switzerland

According to Rector Mikhail Korniakov, there are four subjects to discuss. These are the strategic directions - i.GeoDesign (complex geological prospecting technologies) and Digital industrial technologies. Cold regions and Winter Technologies section is dedicated to winter technologies and economic development in the northern territories.

A block on the subject «Region as Space for Scientific and Technological Development» was prepared by ISOC «Baikal».

Rector of Chinese University of Geosciences (CUG) Sun Yuhong made a video conference. He said that CUG is a key institution of higher education in China with a focus on the study of resources, geology and energy. The university has partnered with universities from 28 countries. CUG signed a memorandum of understanding with INRTU in June 2021. The parties held a seminar and applied for participation in a project devoted to a comprehensive geological and ecological assessment of complex ecosystems of the Russian Federation and the PRC.

«INRTU is a university whose unique experience and technologies enable research in the field of environmental protection, promotion of developments for regions with a cold climate. The forum organized by INRTU will be a powerful reference point to promote the economy, a platform for knowledge exchange between scientists», the speaker said.

Sun Yuhong's research interests include geological engineering, technology and equipment for drilling polar ice and continental deep boreholes. The topic of his presentation at the iPolytech conference also overlaps with these areas.

Demberel Sodnomsambuu, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia, Director of the Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics of the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia, visited the forum. In 2017 he defended his doctoral thesis at INRTU. The guest expressed the hope that the iPolytech conference will become a scientific brand of INRTU, and will contribute to strengthening international cooperation.

President of the Union of Mongolian Friendship Society and the Mongolian-Russian Society, the hero of the Soviet Union and Mongolia, Gurgacha Zhugderdemidin welcomed his colleagues. He has emphasized, that the event is special interest for him:

«Majority of the population of Mongolia is engaged in nomadic herding. As residents of northern territories, we are highly dependent on nature and climate. That is why the issues of heat supply and development of winter technologies are very important for us».

According to Igor Bychkov, director of the Irkutsk branch of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the «winter» vector of the conference is closely connected with studying the Arctic, one of the priority areas of Russian science.

Head of the Foundation for Strategic and Innovative Development of the Irkutsk region, adviser to the rector of INRTU Evgeny Semenov and vice-rector for scientific work Alexander Kononov reported at the opening of the forum.

Plenary reports continued the opening of the event. The interest of the audience was aroused by the presentation of the head of the department and laboratory of the A.A. Blagonravov Institute of Mechanical Engineering of RAS (Moscow) Yuri Matvienko. He spoke about engineering and technological principles of fracture mechanics in the structural survivability management system. Yuri Matvienko's team provides methodological support for the UAC and «Rosatom» colleagues to improve engineering structures, extend their lifespan, etc. The report was intended for students and specialists in the field of aircraft engineering, construction and nuclear power engineering.

At the opening ceremony of the conference drummers of «Etnobit Studio» headed by Natalya Vlasevskaya performed.

The forum was continue with sections i.GeoDesign (SSG IRNITU) and i.DIT (Boiling Point). On Thursday, the participants attended the plenary session and lecture of the ISOC «Baikal», round table «Composites» and the panel discussion «Cold regions and winter technologies». On the final day, a stratsession «Volunteering in science» will take place in the Technopark.

The final event will be the Baikal scientific slam, which will take place on November, 25 at 18:00 (Harat's Pub, 81/1 Lermontova St.).
