The English language quest 10 little Polytechers was included in the program of the Nauka0+ festival. The event was organised by Tatiana Gorbunova and Natalia Kuvshinova, professors of the School of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication. Almost 100 people forming 16 teams competed for the title of the best expert on INRTU neighbourhood.

Given a riddle in the English language, students had to solve it, get to the encrypted place, take a creative picture of their team and send it to the game supervisor in a chat room. For each correctly completed task, participants got a new riddle leading to the next location. A total of seven locations were chosen. Teams could get extra minutes or penalty points. In addition, if they correctly completed the task, the group received a fragment of the puzzle, upon solving it, the students collected a codeword to complete the game.

According to the organizers, this kind of event contributes to the development of a wide range of soft-skills. Students worked in teams and generated ideas, used logical thinking and strategic thinking skills, took creative selfies at locations and developed communication skills, as not everyone is able to talk to a stranger in a foreign language. The quest was won not only by the smartest, but also by the fastest.

During the game students developed skills of reading, speaking and listening in English, learned more about the campus and gained knowledge in the field of country studies.

The teams that finished the tasks before the others met in the G-014 co-working room and played regular or grammar mafia and Cluedo. The games were hosted by Maria Kustova, Maxim Bespalov and Alina Grigoryan, participants of the summer linguistic camp.

The moderators of the chats and members of the jury were 2nd year students of the School of Subsurface Resource Management Lev Alexeev, Dmitry Azizov, Mikhail Zinkov, Danil Vlasov and Ivan Alexandrov.

Ilya Bizimov, 2nd year students of the School of Subsurface Resource Management, Mikhail Konchenko, Anastasia Bokareva and IAS&D 3rd year student Ekaterina Kudelina acted as location agents.

As a result the fastest became the team of group БТПб-22-1, the second place was taken by team АД-22-1, the third place was taken by group СМ-22-1. As Ekaterina Dolgopolova, the team leader of the winning team, said, the victory was due to her good knowledge of the language and orientation in the area.

The participants expressed their desire to conduct quests in English more often, as doing fascinating tasks together brings their classmates closer together and gives them a chance to get to know each other better.
