INRTU students got acquainted with the trends in robotics and energy at Beijing Institute of Technology

Students of Baikal Institute BRICS INRTU completed exchange program at Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). Danil Volygin, who became acquainted with Chinese trends in robot programming and production process management, shared his impressions.

Beijing Institute of Technology was founded in 1940. The university is the first scientific and technical educational institution in China. Here you can get a bachelor's and master's degrees by studying in English-language programs in mechanical engineering, energy, robotics, economics and law.

An agreement on exchange programs between INRTU and a Chinese university was signed in 2023. This was facilitated by winter online schools for Polytech students. The continuation of cooperation was the included training of seven students who are mastering the fields of “Electrical Power and Electrical Engineering”, “Management” and “Economics” at the BRICS Institute.

Third-year students Danil Volygin and Denis Vsevolodov are studying Power Electrical Engineering (“Modern electric power technologies”). In China they attended classes in mathematics, energy, power electronics and robotics. Exams were taken for each discipline at the end of the semester. The training program also included laboratory and project work. The classes were held in English. To better assimilate new material, students regularly compared “Chinese” lectures with notes sent to them by fellow students fr om Russia.

According to Danil Volygin, he improved his skills mostly in mathematics and robotics. The level of teaching in these subjects was quite high. The requirements for the exams also turned out to be serious. Based on the design results, Danil developed a program for a robot intended for the production of wires. The student also became acquainted with Chinese environmental trends associated with the active introduction of alternative energy sources and the massive use of cars and motorcycles powered by electric motors and batteries.

“We entered the School of Automation division, wh ere we learned to design and manage automation processes, apply mathematical modeling methods to optimize chemical reactions and production operations.

Overall, the internship was useful. It expanded my understanding of the world and the opportunities that open to young people. Now I have more motivation to participate in the project on the synthesis of dihydroquerticin, an antioxidant based on Siberian larch. This work is supervised by Associate Professor of the Department of Radio Electronics and Telecommunication Systems Nikolai Ivanov. Also, under his leadership, we are developing an electrochemical generator for eco-transport in the Baikal waters,” Danil emphasized.

In their free time from studying, students got acquainted with historical and architectural monuments. They saw the Great Wall of China, the Temple of Heaven. An interesting fact: in the fall, the students were visited by a Chinese student studying at the BI BRICS. Together they went on an excursion to the Summer Imperial Palace.

Danil Volygin also had a positive impression of the living conditions on the campus of the Beijing Institute of Technology. On the territory of the local campus there is a sports complex with a swimming pool and a stadium. The center of the campus is decorated with a spacious park. Let us note that the Polytech students were accommodated in a comfortable dormitory for free at the expense of the host party. INRTU provided travel grants (compensation for air travel) to students who won the application competition.
